Because they have not been announced yet? There are probably 100,000k+ films not available on BD but have DVD counterparts...

The Breakfast Club will eventually come since it was previously on HD DVD.

Well, I think he's asking why a new version is being issued on DVD without a corresponding Blu-ray, and that's a fair question.

The answer's that studios are still pretty stingy with catalog titles at the moment, especially when it comes to the '80s.

yes, there are new re-release on dvd, you'd have thought to take the time to do those, they would do blu as well

They've re-released the John Hughes movies again on DVD?

It's been a few months, but yeah. I think they're just repackages, though...part of the "Flashback" line.

Back to the Future being the worst offender if Universal actually releases this on DVD with no Blu-ray release.

If they're just repackages, I not surprised that there is no corresponding Blu-ray release.

It's because they weren't released on HD DVD already.

Apparently Universal has rough plans to bring the Trilogy to BD in Q4.

Yeah, still no reason for not bringing TBC to BD.

No, they actually made new "Special Editions" of The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, and Weird Science when they re-released them last September...

The Breakfast Club received the most special features, with a commentary track, a documentary, and a "Brat Pack" featurette...
Weird Science got a documentary, trailer, and the TV show pilot episode...
Sixteen Candles only got a documentary...

Here's hoping Universal puts these bonus features on the eventual Blu-ray releases!

It'd be nice if Universal could get ahold of Molly Ringwald. She was the huge, conspicuous absence on those Brat Pack Special Editions. I'm sure SD owners would be mad, though, if instead of exclusive features, BD got an exclusive extended version of the stuff they already have.

Yeah that's the one that really jumped into my head with the 45th Anniversary Edition. I guess we'll be waiting until the 50th before we see a Blu-ray version. Sigh.

F14 2 and 3 are coming out in the UK in a few days. American BDs will follow, eventually.
