The French release was by Fox Pathe... the UK release was by 20th Century Fox... I know that's not really different... but it ain't exactly the same...

So there still is some hope.

Re: Taken (UK release)

I have seen the international version of this movie and quite enjoyed it. It's nothing revolutionary, but it's a good ride. It will DEFINITELY be cut for theaters if it's a PG-13, the violence is just pretty intense and there are some headshots, etc. So if you guys are on the fence and don't want to wait until Fox's unrated DVD, the international version is the way to go.

That's what I like to hear!

Now all that's needed is ofr it to truly be region free and without a PAL menu. ray:

Re: Taken (UK release)

According to someone at Hidefdigest, this is indeed locked to Region B & C (according to the box coverart at Blockbusters within the UK)

Re: Taken (UK release)

It's usually cheaper to go their UK site despite the currency conversion. That's what I did when I got my collector's edition DVD of House of Flying Daggers from them a few years back.

Do they ship to the US or Puerto Rico?

That's correct. I checked my own store and they do indeed have B and C down as the region coding. The cover is also slightly different from what's previewed thus far, but it could be simply rental-exclusive.

I certainly hope it's a rental exclusive "feature" and that the retail release is not region locked. Or, at the very least, that it be a missprint on the cover.

Ordered from cdwow.com. Also signed up to get a 1-pound instant voucher. I should have no problems playing this disc on my HTPC.

How I envy you, SomethingMore.

Please let us know what it's like (and if by some miracle it's not region locked).

Re: Taken (UK release)

my only concern is that cdwow says the runtime is 91 minutes, amazon.co.uk says 89 minutes, and IMDB says 94 minutes.

Re: Taken (UK release)

Amazon is probably basing their runtime on the PAL DVD so that's probably due to PAL speedup. IMDB is probably taking their cues from the US runtime which probably has more opening/end credits than movie. I guess cdwow's runtime is probably closer to the truth but an estimate nonetheless.

Re: Taken (UK release)

the BBFC has two running times, for the UK theatrical run it was given a 15 rating: running time: 93min 34sec. The video release, rated 18 runs: 93min and 24sec

go figure?!, and the BBFC websiite is VERY accurate.

Re: Taken (UK release)

cdwow just emailed me to say that the disc has been delayed. My guess is it'll ship on Feb 9, which is the date that amazon.co.uk lists as the release date.

Maybe I'll go see the PG-13 cut in the theatres in the meantime

So the extended cut is shorter than the theatrical cut?

So is this more a case of alternated footage switched in place of the footage shown in theatres rather than scene extensions? Cos that's the only thing that I can think of to explain the so-called Extended Harder Cut being shorter than the theatrical cut.

personally I don't get it either. But that's what the BBFC's is stating.

Taken 15 Rating BBFC (theatrical)

Taken 18 Rating BBFC (video)

the film on DVD with PAL speed up is 89min 32sec

Re: Taken (UK release)

Yeah, definitely odd. Which is why I assume that the 18 cut really doesn't feature extended footage but rather alternate footage. That would explain why the 15 cut is 10 second longer.

Re: Taken (UK release)

The only other explanation may be that the BBFC is wrong.

That, or the Blu-ray was mistakenly encoded at 1080p50fps (instead of 1080p24fps for film-sourced material) much like the Spanish movie [REC] (edit: although, [REC] was video-based, so that's a different situation altogether)

Either way, I'm getting the 18 cut, so I'm happy
