I understand. That said, I encourage you to give it another shot. I've seen most of Miike's output, and I'd include "Visitor Q" in the top tier (along with Ley Lines, Rainy Dog, Audition, Bird People of China). Yes, it revels in the most taboo of taboos and all manner of scatalogy, and is not quite a convincing critique of exploitation journalism, reality tv, nor a sincere portrait of the fracturing of the family unit in modern Japan. But even so... there's an absurdist brilliance to this film with characters that are both sympathetically realistic and cartoonishly extreme, and I find it quite satisfying on a purely human level. Underneath the shit and various bodily fluids, there's a heart beating.

"Ichi", on the other hand, I find to be among Miike's worst, coming off - at best - as an ungenerous parody of Miike's better yakuza films.

BTW, what ever happened to the blu-ray release of "The Bird People of China"? Delayed or cancelled?

That's the main reason I won't be picking this up on BD. I'll wait and see if they use a new transfer. For all we know, the DVD could have been struck from an HD transfer and they could be using that same transfer for the BD.

Yeah... Miike's "The Bird People of China" was supposed to come out months ago. Release date came and went, and totally without comment. I have no idea if it's delayed, cancelled or what.

Rich, it was actually canceled quite a bit before the street date. I made an announcement elsewhere - I am unsure if it will be released on BD any time soon.

Just checked Amazon and the release date has been shifted to October 20th. Likely a smart move to pair release dates with Shout's Audition Blu-ray.

What's incredibly sad is that Media Blasters released Flesh For The Beast and Shadow: Dead Riot on Blu before this film.

Delayed again? Well, no surprises. MB has always sucked at keeping release dates.

It's a shame they didn't get it out around the time Audition was released, because I think plenty of people would've been doubling-up on Miike after seeing Shout Factory's Blu-ray.

Still no say on what features it will literally have?

Even if they printed a list I'm not going to believe a thing until I pop the disc in and see what they are with my own eyes.
