The OS the router is running has no bearing on what can be connected to it. DD-WRT itself is based on a Linux-based OS that Linksys has had running on some of their routers for years. Your current WRT54G2 is running VxWorks OS, which isn't Windows either.

Re: connecting a Sony BDP-S350 via wireless connection
Alright, I now have a WRT54G-TM from a T Mobile that has been flashed w/ dd-wrt, and I'm trying to set it up as a wireless bridge for my Sony BDP-S350. But, I'm having a hell of a time.
I'm hardly a router guru, so that's part of the problem, I guess.
I'm really unclear on some of the basics, and even though I've read this a few hundred times it only confused me more.
I suppose it's too much to expect that there are some universal settings that I can change on the WRT54G-TM.

Re: connecting a Sony BDP-S350 via wireless connection
Apparently I'm a networking moron, and I cannot get it to connect to my new Linksys WRT54G-TM router flashed with DD-Wrt, which I intend to act act as a bridge. If there's anyone here willing to discuss this me via email offline (if it's too off topic for this thread) I would be greatly appreciative. Or if anyone can point me in the right direction (another board?) to get help that would be fine, too.
Some of things I'm unclear on:
- settings for the WRT54G-TM
DHCP or not?
AP or Client Bridge?
- settings for the 350
DHCP or static ip?
If static, I'm at a loss for the other required settings
I know barely enough to be dangerous when it comes to routers, and I've been reading a dd-wrt help page, but I'm even more confused.

If you're still a little confused, I found this guide which has a lot less steps, along with helpful pictures, for setting up a DD-WRT router as a wireless bridge.

This guide looks good too, although it has no pictures:

Interestingly, both guides skip the step of assigning the bridging router a new IP address. I'm guessing the network bridging still works if you don't, but you'll have trouble administering the two routers later on if they have the same IP address, so it'd still be good to change the bridge's IP to something like 192.168.1.3 .

For routers, the DHCP setting is for whether the router works as a DHCP server and automatically hands out IP addresses to connected devices. You only ever want one device on a network automatically assigning IP addresses, usually the main router.

Re: connecting a Sony BDP-S350 via wireless connection
So any new ideas for this problem?
It's been a few months and I thought that I might try to set up my BR player (BDP-S350) for wireless connection, but I wanted to see if I could do it with the couple of routers that I have here before I sink any money in it. I have a Linksys WRK54G router, which doesn't look like it will be useful, but I also have a Linksys WRVS4400N router here that I am not really using. Does anyone know if that might work? I can't really find a lot of specific details about the router since I believe it is a business model.

Re: connecting a Sony BDP-S350 via wireless connection
Is it possible to direct connect my Sony BDP-BX1 to my router in order to access internet streamed video? It just happens that my BX1 and router are within a couple feet of each other so I don't really need a wireless connection. But I cannot seem to get the BX1 to recognize the internet when connected to the router via an ethernet cable. I did recently upgrade the BX1 firmware.

It should work. Make sure you have a link light on the port on the router, indicating that the router and player are connected successfully. Then, make sure you network settings on your player are set for DHCP (or automatic configuration)
