This is one of those holdovers from the time Fox/MGM made a bunch of announcements and then canceled them. It still doesn't mean they couldn't go back and revamp it, though.

LOL, took them long enough to bring it over here. I've had this BD for almost a year now from Japan.
Too bad no extras. However, it's one of my all time favorite movies, so frankly I don't give a damn as long as I have the movie in HD.

I still can't believe we are getting releases that are barebones compared to their SD version.
What are they thinking???

They want you to keep your SD DVD for the extras AND buy the HD version.

given the lack of extras, i will now be holding out on this release. i see no point in withholding extras that already exist and do not plan on supporting the practice.

Okay - so is it officially out or not? The Fry's in Austin has a couple dozen copies, but in looking online and a couple of Best Buy stores, and no one seems to be selling them. I picked up a copy (cause I'm stupid, but I love this Frankenheimer movie), but has anyone heard of this title being postponed.....again?

Like I said - it's only Fry's that has them. Nobody else has them for sale. Doesn't mean it's officially out though. I didn't know if there was some kind of press announcement mentioning a delay.

Its officially out. But with a high MSRP some stores may not be willing to carry it (or multiple copies) especially if other MGM/Fox titles rot on the shelves.

FWIW DVDEmpire has it In Stock so other retailers do have it besides Fry's.
I'm assuming I'll have to go to Fry's for Silence of the Lambs next week as well.

Hurmmm ... Is Ronin going to turn into a hard-to-find title? I see it listed on Best Buy (Canada)'s web site, but it looks like it's sold out online and all the stores I check stock for are coming up with no info. It's not even listed on Future Shop's web site ... I love the film and have the 2-Disc Collector's DVD which I bought for $6 last year. So I don't mind the BD being barebones.

My Borders had one copy on Tuesday and Borders.com has it listed.
[From my anecdotal experience, Borders doesn't seem to be movin' too many Blu-rays at all at their standard pricing model of MSRP. In fact, it looks like they are dropping 2 of the 7 3-footers currently featuring BD.]

Could be some stores are unsure of Blu-rays growth and may not want to stock high MSRP'ed titles when they may not sell. Space is at a premium for stores and if they are not moving enough of the current stock of Blu-rays they already have, why continue to add $40 titles? Just my opinion since I've seen Best Buy have the same space devoted to Blu-ray for 6 months now and obviously more and more titles come out every day. Balancing act on what to carry I'm sure.

^ True. With so few titles, they've had the luxury of displaying discs face on. As more are released, they just shift to more spine out display.

Yep. Sony paid for the features. When the title reverted back to MGM they chose (or may have not been offered or even cared) not to carry over the special features. Since it only came out on Blu-ray, MGM likely figured paying the extra bucks for the features would not be worth it since the Blu-ray is likely to not sell like gangbusters. In the future its possible a SE of the BD/DVD may arrive...so who knows. MGM, in terms of Blu-ray, is one of the worst.

Re: Ronin Blu-Ray ---> 2/24/09
Checking the back of the 2-Disc CE cover, I see both the Sony and MGM studio logos on there. The Blu-ray's front cover art and spine art even matches, basically, the cover and spine from the 2-Disc CE DVD. I have a feeling it's less an issue of rights and more an issue of laziness, since we've also seen studios put out BDs of the same films they've had in CE form on DVD over the years, but with zero/reduced special features.
