Is this the first time Amazon has changed their price to match Best Buy before the ads appear? How did they know what their price is without definitive confirmation?

Yeah, I think it is! Now, its possible Uni may have dropped the MSRP on this set as of todayl (IIRC, my press sheet I got with my review set showed the original MSRP) but we will see if the price jumps back up in 2 weeks after the BB ad is done.

It's on the Best Buy website now.

64.99 is still too much for this. I suspect we will see a lower price on this sooner rather than later. Just like the rash of sale prices we've had for Band of Brothers and The Godfather Trilogy, I expect retailers to end up slashing prices on this as well.

I saw the lower MSRP as well on Amazon. I take that as a good sign that Universal finally realized that 124.99 was too much for 3 catalogs. Either way I'll jump in when it gets to less than 50.

Agree on all parts. When do you think it'll hit $50 ... if it's gonna be a while, then I might have to skip a few meals and get it now.

After seeing what happened with BoB, I've given up pre-ordering and buying anything on release week. The excitement of release day purchase is now overshadowed by the letdown 3 weeks later when it's $10 less.

Ive got $30 of trade credit on this at Movie Stop, from some crappy DVD trade ins, so $35 out of pocket when they price match is good for me.

The only time I buy BDs on release week is if I just have to have it immediately (such as the Dark Knight). Otherwise, I bide my time until a good deal comes along, which I can afford to do, because I have a fairly decent backlog of unwatched discs as it is.

With DVDs, I often buy on release week, because the loss leader pricing is often a pretty good value, but that situation hasn't come up with Blu-ray yet.

BestBuy.com changed their price to $64.99 early...so that's probably why its lower on Amazon right now. I'd nab it now - I don't think this one will go any lower for some time.

It's $21.66 per movie...not a terrible price as far as BDs go.

I think especially with these 3 films it was crucial they brought the price down. With the proliferation of HD's floating around many of which were freebies or <$10 it's a hard sell at $40. I could see it if it were previously unreleased in 1080p, maybe a Back To The Future or Beverly Hills Cop. Not that I'd pay that much but at least it's not competing against freebies.

I have my bets of this set being on sales for $44.99 in 6-8 weeks from release.

I'm just tired on getting burned by buying both Band of Brothers and The Godfather Trilogy on release day and I believe those dropped in about a month so I'd put money on around that timeframe.

Or, $20 for the first two and $25 for Ultimatum, which might still classify as a new release. When you look at it like that, the price isn't very good at all; you're not getting a deal by buying the box set, which kind of defeats the purpose of a box set.

Then 6-8 weeks I shall wait.
Is there a toll-free number that I can call if I don't see that price in 8 weeks? -wink-

I would hardly consider a film from 2007 to be classified as a "new release" all the way here in 2009, even if it is only January, and the original HD DVD combo disc came out in December of 2007....13 months is just way too long....

This release really should have been $74.99 MSRP tops, and available at Amazon/Target/etc. for $49.99 first week at most....

BTW, I just noticed the SRP is down again (I think). It's now at $94.98. Was that what it was before?

I don't see what that has to do with the Blu-Ray release. But then again, I agree with Matt so...

I'm holding off on buying it for the price. Once it comes down to earth, however long that'll take, then I'll buy.

Cool. Makes me even more glad to buy it. to Matt Damon.

I remember the day many years ago when celebrities didn't like to comment about politics. When drug addled overweight rock stars have enough sense to say "I'm just an entertainer, I prefer to keep my opinion to my self" you know common sense has left the building.

Too bad he didn't debate the idiot. Let's just say that there's a good reason that Kristol's column got canned by the NYT.

I might not be able to wait a whole month for the price drop. Maybe I'll just plunge on it now ...
