No, it's not. Universal prices their catalog titles at a $29.98 MSRP, and they start around $20 on Amazon with some recent ones like American Gangster going for $15.

It's not that I can't afford this boxed set or anything, but the price point is obnoxious.

My uncle will buy CD's that he doesn't really care for, or he already has all the music he cares for, just because he loves the deluxe packaging. Honestly, even if I didn't have the HD-DVD set I'd rather have 3 seperate movies for $19.99 each than a deluxe box where most of the cost is the packaging. I have my movies on shelves for convenience, not for display purposes. My fear is that instances like this will only fan the flames of the naysayers who think Blu is a niche market and too expensive for regular consumers.

I am going to buy this day one, but the price sucks. There's just no defense of it.

The Gangsters set had two recent films and one catalog and was a $90 list. I hope they're not suggesting the outer box is worth $30.

Costco has this on their website for $74.99. I'm still hoping that Fry's or Best Buy will come in with a price around $60 or better.

Per Speedy's ad, Target will have the set for $64.99.

Are all three movies going to be released separately? I have the first two on hd-dvd and only want the third on blu. All three films were successful so i dont see why it would hurt for them to sell them separately as well.

That's a lot better. Since they're not usually the lowest, I bet we'll be able to find it for a bit less than that.

I can't recall Amazon ever matching Target prices. I was always under the impression that they only matched Best Buy.

Either way, I have ten dollars in Best Buy RZ certs so I'm just going to get them to pricematch it.

No, they oftentimes match Target, too.

Although I'm sticking with the HD DVD's I'm glad this pricing is where it needs to be to promote hi-def. If I didn't have the HD already I'd be all over this. But I have about $8 invested in my trilogy and have so many on my wishlist it makes no sense to spend $65 on movies I already have in hi-def. Happy for my bretheren that were waiting to enjoy these movies in 1080p.

I say wait for the inevitable Amazon Gold Box price of $34.99 :D

It bound to happen in the next few months.

The box is so worth it. I'm tempted to just buy the set for $65, keep the box, and sell each film for $18. Its that sweet.

Best Buy will have the trilogy for $64.99 per Speedy's post in the Bargains forum.

So Amazon should match. Right?

Yes, but I'd cancel your pre-order NOW. They probably won't match until Tueday, and if your order ships Monday...you will pay the higher price.

Good advice. That definitely seems to be the way it works now.

Amazon really is shitting all over loyal customers with that policy. I am definitely cancelling Prime when my sub is up - I'll just buy locally.

Tell me about it. Still irked how soon titles drop after they release. Some may scoff, but $2-3 a week for 3-4 releases adds up quickly.

If you don't pre-order, they're fine. I like the fact that they are now pricematching Best Buy.

Amazon has been price matching Best Buy for a while now. They also do Target/CC every once and a while.

I thought I had heard you still get the price match all the way up until the Tuesday release even if your copy ships Monday.

At least this one dropped now. Hopefully it updates on my order shortly.

FWIW, I have the first two on HD-dvd as well. I'll probably pick the set up on Blu-Ray but I'll wait for the price to come down.
