Watched The Possession this evening...

Even though I'd seen it before (in 2014) I didn't remember what happened.

Creepy as fuck.

Saw this in the theater but rented it so the wife could see it. Quite the tearjerker.

A recent upgrade from HD DVD. Looks and sounds much better than the HD. Did not get a chance to put the BR in for comparison. Will say though that now I have a few more 4K discs, once you get used to watching them with HDR, the difference between BR and 4K is more noticeable. Had forgotten what a fun romp this was. Too bad the new one couldn't settle on a tone.

Thanks JimRochester for your opinion! I have been on the fence about upgrading to a 4K player/4K discs. I recently bought a 4K TV which I have been enjoying, particularly my Blu-ray/HD-DVD collection. I have have been curious whether the upgrade is that noticeable and on which discs.

I was quite honest when I got the 4K player and discs. I would A/B the 4K and Br version. There was a noticeable but small difference. I realized last night now that I have a decent number of UHD discs the difference is a little more apparent. I put in Megan Leavey which is a modern film on BR and it looked and sounded great. Then I watched the Mummy and even though it was an older movie, the deeper detail is apparent. I watched Serenity on Friday and damn, the surrounds and sub were humping. It was always worth the extra $5 to get the UHD disc but now I'm just reinforcing my belief.

It is not that bad. It might not be worth paying top dollar at the multiplex but it is a comedy which is rare these days and a rare Saturday where you can watch a comedy with big stars.

Upgrade from the HD DVD. Visually not as big a difference as the first Mummy, but the audio is just as amazing. With some of my DVD's and BR's I wonder if the surrounds are working. Then I pop in a 4K and the sound is totally immersive. These were fun movies. Some humor, some adventure, some hot Patricia Valasquez and Rachel Weisz. Since I'm not big on the horror, the adventure angle was fine by me.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

A recent HD DVD upgrade. This one is an anomaly. The 4K presentation looked and sounded very good. But when I popped in the BR to compare, the film grain was completely gone in the scenes I watched. So some people are going to say the BR looked better and the color timing and grain of the 4K was inferior. Others will say the 4K presentation more closely resembles the source material with film grain and the BR colors looked a bit washed out.

Still Opie's best or at least one of the best. Love this movie along with Hidden Figures as a window to the space race.

Watched Logan this evening. Not what I was expecting, but a very essential story about the extinction of one generation and the birth of another. I enjoyed it...

Pretty much an ideal representation of this movie. Some of the caps I'd seen of the SF version gave me pause, but I never experienced one moment of hesitation with this one as it unspooled. Great to finally have it in the library in a more or less unimpeachable package.

Bliss.
DePalma was always so much more than a one note Hitchcock imitator.

Wasn't overly impressed with SF's A/V presentation, so I'm eyeing Arrows upcoming release- even though this viewing here means it will likely be many years before I get around to seeing it again.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Given that I was under the impression years ago that the elements for this were too problematic to yield a worthwhile image harvest, the work Eureka did is nothing less than stunning and miles ahead of the OoP Twilight Time disc.
The movie itself is a bit middle of the road with the main lure being able to see Hayworths ginger locks in vivid technicolor. There's also one truly standout showstopper where Gene Kelly dances with himself. The technical virtuosity on display is awe inspiring when you realize what he had to accomplish.

Finished up the short, but entertaining and very well produced season with the last two eps. Greatly enjoyed this and was heartened to see Atwell and her character used well to give even more resonance to the CA story. To me, this is a great example of how you do prequel material.
