Spoiler:
Another disc that I bought the week it streeted, only to watch it kick around from shelf to tub to box, unopened for all these years. Fortunately enough time had passed since my last viewing of it that I forgot enough specific details to still keep it tense and exciting. And I was in the absolute perfect, paranoid mood for it
.

Eps 4 and 5 from

Spoiler:
The live action equivalent of an 8 page Marvel back-up feature in a higher profile characters book. I'm digging this show much more than I ever expected and the natural references to Steve Rogers that pop up occasionally retroactively make CA:TFA seem much more substantial than it actually played at the time. And for what seemed like just a filler series, there's an enormous amount of honest affection for the era on display.

It may not hit some of the heights the Berlanti DC shows can at times, but it also doesn't get mired in the annoying soap opera ruts those shows traffic in so much either.

Collateral Beauty

One of those get the kleenex box movies though kind of silly.

Silence
Well-made, but a bit of a slog. Could've been shorter, but would've worked better in a theater rather than at home.

Fantastic Beasts
Well-made, but way too spastic. The opposite of Silence. The movie needed to calm down and breath for a bit.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

This starts off poorly with some crude humor but eventually gets around to some funny stuff with substance. Unfortunately Cringetastic rules the day. For me a few "F" bombs and toilet humor go a long way. Megan Mullaly was fantastic. Basically Meet The Parents but with a straight laced parent and odd-ball beau. Most of the good stuff you already saw in the trailer. 2.5/5

First two episodes. Assuming subsequent episodes are as good as the first two, I can see why this is so highly spoken of.

Running Scared (1986)...still so much fun after all these years. Great chemistry with Hines and Crystal.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Original Theatrical (non teal) version from

Spoiler:
Seeing the newer Director's cut of this several years ago, I felt the screencaps that were bothering many people (myself included) were ultimately very misleading. It didn't seem to be distractingly stylized, though teals were certainly, and literally, pushed over every other hue.
While the theatrical cut here is definitely from an older master (it shares similar flaws with TT's Comes A Horseman), and faces can skew a little too red on occasion, the overall color balance is still far more colorful and natural looking. That broader spectrum of hues doesn't infringe at all on Mann's stylized shots- if anything it makes them pop even more now.

I put the newer version in afterwards to compare some scenes and for me there's no contest. The teal influence just steps on everything, muddying up the other colors and stepping on shadow detail.

The older master has flaws, but I doubt I'll ever watch the newer one again.

Spoiler:
A killer cast, one of James Bonds most influential directors, and some Western-style location work that you don't normally see in a Euro lensed Western (snowy mountain passages, lots of overcast skies).
And yet it all ended up as a big "meh" for me.
Can't put my finger on it as no one individual part seems like a weak link, but somehow it all just seemed tired and not all that satisfying.

Good story with action, intrigue and a very hot Marion Cottillard

From the vault. Hadn't seen this in ages.

The Founder

Wonder how things would have turned out if the original owners of McDonalds still owned the franchise.

Trainwreck...this is a smartly written, loose comedy. Very effective and perfect vehicle for Schumer. Not like what looks like horseshit in Snatched.

First HD DVD title I watched on the 4K. Considering this movie is 40 years old, looked pretty darn good. And the Goddamned Germans got nuthin to do with it!
