Heat - Director's Definitive Cut. Wow, what a blast. The film was already a masterpiece, but this looked and sounded the best its ever looked and sounded.

No, I don't miss the "ferocious, aren't I?" line that was deleted all those years ago.

I paid $7 for it and it was money well spent.

Not yet. Just watched the movie. I may dig into the Q&A stuff tonight. Especially that one of those has Christopher Nolan moderating. I remember the interview he did with Al Pacino on the BD for Insomnia. That was a good little extra and Nolan did not have the pedigree he has now.

I did not watch the extras but it had no problems playing in my Sony Blu-ray DVD Player I bought in 2016.

The kid Francis Capra is now bald and has tattoos.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Scarface

This never gets old. I wish I could hang out with those guys and live in that world but without the fear of dying.

Silence

I love Scorsese but that alone could not hold my interest in this movie.

At 2 hrs and 41 minutes it was probably the longest movie I have seen all of this year.

Put it in for a couple minutes to check the transfer and couldn't stop watching it. I was dead tired too, but 120 minutes later I was in both high spirits and emotionally wrung out.

There are a lot of films I enjoy, many films I love, and a handful that I absolutely treasure. This is one that hits every category for me.
Hands down, as far as I'm concerned, this modest little WA release is the best disc of the year so far.

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Aliens from

Spoiler:
One of my least enjoyable viewings of it.

For some reason I found a lot of elements just rubbing me the wrong way this time. I don't know if the color grading changes (which I previously hadn't cared too much about in regards to this film) made a difference this time, but so much about the film felt horribly dated and off to me (Dramatic entrance- beat, beat, beat- Star delivers big, audience reaction catch phrase. Sooo 80's.)

I used to love the film, but last night all I could see were the plot cheats and a ton of rings false moments (Newt's PTSD adorably clears up in a refreshing relative jiffy). May be time to finally pack this one away for quite a while (even though it's already been almost 7 years since I last watched it).

Spoiler:
This one surprised me. I wasn't very impressed when I first saw it on DVD 15 years ago. But in the middle of Trumplandia now, the setting of depression era lost men (and women) having to navigate around thuggish authorities who are more about protecting the oligarchy over the public interest, seemed to have quite a bit more immediacy and relevance than I ever imagined it would.

Unfortunately I was dog tired and couldn't keep my eyes open for a good bit of it. I expect I'll be watching it again sooner rather than later.

For a Scorcese effort, it's very much rough around the edges, but Hershey and Carradine have enough natural charisma to keep your attention (if you're not running on fumes, that is).

Re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

I knew it would be trash. What I wasn't expecting was how entertaining it would be, with a lead character who manages to be surprisingly sympathetic. Although marquee headliner Collins had all the allure of a 40 year old drag queen in mid transformation.

Nostalgic comfort food. The cheerfully banal, "let's save our favorite Venice Roller Rink from nasty developers!" plot made an amusing, palate cleansing follow-up to the odious, pseudo Studio 54 shenanigans of the Joan/Jackie Collins feature before it.

Hidden Figures

Patterson

Miss Sloane. It had some moments but kind of boring and could not keep up with the story.

A Kind of Murder

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

I know it is not a popular movie but it is even more funnier the second time.

Loved this movie. I believe Wahlberg's character was a composite but based on the recreations and historical footage they seemed to stay pretty close to the historical source material. Even the actors did a great job of looking like the actual person they were representing. Wish there had been a nice documentary on the disc. That poor university cop that they killed trying to get his gun. There is no way you can pull a gun from the new holsters from the other side. Too many things have to happen at once. Even if a cop were to get a arm shot before he got his gun out, he just can't do what needs to be done with his other hand. Benoist looks like she was enjoying playing the anti-establishment wife.

Take a Hard Ride--yeahhh, baby! Blaxploitation meets Spaghetti Western--Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Jim Kelly and Lee Van Cleef.

Maybe not the greatest western ever made, but damn entertaining.
