This was an excellent little surprise...a mash-up Heist/Horror film that actually works:

Very well made on all fronts.

Resident Evil Retribution Blu Ray

Really love these films. Total guilty pleasure. Beyond that, the commentary tracks on these flicks are fantastic. Anyone else agree?

Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie (narrator) from Goodbye Christopher Robin were in this movie too

It was decent.

The Commuter...omg was this laughably bad, yet i couldn't look away. i did watch the whole thing which says something, i guess, but the effects, the story was absolutely preposterous. i did watch one extra where Liam was praising the 4 movies he filmed with this director. Unknown, Non-stop, etc. These were barely watchable movies. TC was no exception. just ridiculous. and that Spartacus moment and when they all get off train and happy endings ensue i actually laughed and not in the good way.

Black Panther. To preface: I avoided as many spoilers about this movie before I saw it, so I feel I went in fresh. After I finished watching it (a couple of hours ago, as I wanted to finish it before the hockey game), I read some of the thread about the movie on the Movie Forum. The reaction seems pretty mixed, if not a bit more negative than positive. My opinion? I thought it was fantastic. I was a bit skeptical because the movie got so much hype, but I thought it was great. It may not be the masterpiece some people have claimed, but I feel it's one of Marvel's better movies. Boseman was great, and I loved the actress that played his sister (I liked her comedic relief). Andy Serkis blew me away as one of the villains, as I'm so used to him being motion-captured, I've never seem him that often without a costume/CGI costume, if you will. He brought a lot of humour to the movie. And I thought Killmonger (played by one of my favorite young actors, Michael B. Jordan) made a great villain. As all Marvel movies, it still felt the need to go very bombastic at the end, but overall I thought the movie worked. Have to give props to Ryan Coogler...I thought he made great work with the camera and the storyline moved along at a solid pace...And much to my surprise, I really liked Martin Freeman in this (the only other thing I really liked him in was Fargo: Season One)...

It's not the greatest Marvel movie, but I actually enjoyed this one more than Thor: Ragnorak or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2...My faves still remain Avengers, the original Guardians of the Galaxy, and the first Thor...and maybe Ant Man...

Two Days, One Night. Awesome Dardenne Brothers film. Watched the Criterion Blu-Ray. Marion Cotillard gives one of her greatest performances in this movie. Very absorbing, and the time just flies by as you watch her desperation gradually grow throughout the movie...One of my favourites from the Dardennes...

Also just watched Ichi The Killer for the first time. Um? Wow. Lots of WTF moments. Can't say I'd recommend this one to anyone else...And it's doubtful I'd watch it again. It was interesting, given the hype (at least in my mind) that I had heard about it. The gore was definitely excessive...I cringed several times. Should also comment that if this image is "Remastered", then the previously releases must have been awful, as I thought the image was pretty brutal. Looked like a DVD to me...

Overall, just a super twisted movie...

Angst. Second time watching this one. Love it. Very disturbing movie that obviously gets compared to Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, which was released a few years later. Fantastic acting by the lead. In terms of the Blu-Ray, I'd also add that the twenty minute interview with the lead actor is well worth watching...And the booklet that is included with the Blu-Ray is fantastic...Just an all-around great movie...

I'd also add that this time I watched the movie with the optional Prologue...I thought it was great, especially after reading up on the real life case that inspired the movie...I really don't think the Prologue detracts from the movie, and kind of wish it was fully integrated into the main feature, as opposed to being optional...My understanding is that the director hates the prologue and never wanted it included, but I feel it's a welcome addition...And really gives the movie some context...It's not absolutely necessary, but it doesn't hurt...

Cyborg. Watched the Scream Factory release. This movie has always been a favorite of mine...Vintage Van-Damme...Loved it...Still making my way through the special features but so far they've all been pretty informative...My second favorite Van-Damme movie after Sudden Death...

Burroughs: The Movie. Interesting documentary. It was neat seeing Allen Ginsburg and Terry Southern...Pretty fascinating, especially if you're a Burroughs fan...Enjoyable enough but I'm not sure it is worth a purchase...Hoping to check out the extras later on...The essay that came with the Criterion release was really well done...

The Kennedy Films: Primary. Put in the Criterion Blu-Ray and decided to watch the first program...It was okay, but after seeing all of the "behind-the-scenes" documentaries that are rampant nowadays, it's pretty blah...Basically follows the Democratic primary between Kennedy and Hubert Humphreys (who comes across as being very fake)...It's kind of tragic seeing JFK looking so energetic and optimistic...From a historical perspective, I'm glad I watched it, but unless you're a political science major or history buff, I don't think there's much reason to watch...Still intend to watch the other three programs...That said, the picture quality on the Criterion was outstanding...

The Hunt. Vinterberg movie. Mikkelson was amazing in this...Difficult to watch, given the subject matter, but brutally effective...This one really should've won Best Foreign Film the year it came out...I can't remember what movie won, but I remember this being nominated...I also love the ambiguous ending...Very powerful...

Hollywood does not make a lot of mob movies anymore. Maybe the last time Depp gave a full effort for a movie.

I'd been saving this for a couple years now for just the right evening. I finally realized it was never going to come so I decided to spin it last night so I could clear some room on the shelf for something else.

I had high hopes for this one to deliver the early '70's un-PC, low budget goods. The longer I let it sit on the shelf though, the more I expected it wouldn't ever live up to the hype.

I was wrong. It soooo delivered. Aside from some quasi animal cruelty (mostly dead animals being desecrated, with one live chicken's throat cut) which was wince inducing, this was very entertaining.
I was expecting something like The Crazies, but this was blessedly a lot more off the wall. Yet not so much as to just feel like random set pieces. The narrative had a fairly clean line through to the (abrupt) end.

Was very impressed by the job Grindhouse did. Considering the origins, both the audio and video were top notch. It's also pretty stacked in terms of supplements and additional features.

A great blind buy!

Three eps from
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US218_.jpg

After a nauseating opener, this season turned out to exceedingly engaging to me. The last three eps (I think I'm done to one last one) were among the best so far- with some excellent character studies taking the forefront over the somewhat iffy overarching serial plot.

One thing I very much appreciate is how quiet this show can be- and not in a way that simply sets up a jump scare.

Unless it jumps the shark in the last ep, I'll be fully ready for S8 (after the price hits $30, that is).
