Funny movie. Had some good laughs. I will say that F*ck can be funny if used in the right context. I thought Melissa McCarthy's profanity in The Heat was hilarious. However what makes it so funny is the contrast with Bullock's prim and proper character. If too many characters are all throwing the word around constantly, it stops being funny. I don't know how many f-bombs were dropped in this but they relied on it way too much. All in all a good watch. Applegate was very good as the bitch in charge of the PTA making Mila's life hell. Just tiresome with the propensity to say fuck every other word. |

Bridget Jone's Baby. A little late for a third sequel? I don't think I have seen Rene Zellweger in a movie since the George W. Bush administration.
I like the Ellie Goulding song featured in the soundtrack. Found the man card and watched Rocky. Maybe if this movie came out today it would be a indie film since no studio would probably finance it. Deepwater Horizon In the Valley of Violence. This was better than what I expected though Spoiler:

The Serpent and the Rainbow...this was really kind of great. Very eerie and that one line, "Don't let them bury me, I'm not dead" has haunted me since I saw a little of this when I was a youngin'. Very nicely done.

The Blob (1988)...I always had a soft spot for this one since I first saw it many years ago. Watching it now, this is a pretty good little horror remake. Some gruesome effects. Better creature effects then I remember as well. Yes, a little cheesy, but gruesome and well done. I also always loved Shawnee Smith since this.

Unbreakable...this gets better on subsequent viewings, but still hate the headline at the end.

Signs...great slow burn thriller. On an M. Night kick lately. All his movies seem slow moving, but it is gripping stuff.

Beast Of Hollow Mountain from
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US218_.jpg Was looking for a cheesy, non demanding vintage horror/monster movie to cap off a Saturday night. This fit the bill. Guy Madison was a likable enough budget lead, and the color scope cinematography and south of the border setting gave it a little bit of character. But the stop motion animation was remarkably weak. Didn't hate it, but for about 20 minutes I couldn't stop yawing and had to close my eyes a few minutes here and there to try to stave off packing it in and going to sleep. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US218_.jpg Wow! Absolutely loved it. Don't know why it's taken me until now to finally see it given how much I've always respected many of Soderbergh's other films. Even though this was the second feature, I was fully alert and invested the whole run time. From the look of the film to the performances to the Cliff Martinez score and general sound design... can't rave about it enough. Was startled by how many future "faces" were cast here. Just a boatload of talent all around. Another blind buy that paid off in spades. |

Nighthawks...loved it. The sense of tension and grit. Of course, the end was obvious but the tension was still palpable. Reminded me a little of a Freidkin film, in look and feel with the international scenes. Really good role for Stallone and I wish he made more like this, Copland, but he just made movies that suited him in over-the-top action. Too bad. And when wasn't Rutger Hauer the quintessential 80's bad guy? He's so bad ass.

A new TV is like watching them for the first time all over again. UHD does take some getting used to though. The movement being so crisp appears different than what I'm used to. Although it uses the cliché of disarming the bomb with 1 second to spare, I like the throwback to some earlier hero on the lamb thrillers. |

Watched this using my 99 cent Amazon rental and was surprised at how gripping it was. It's not uncommon for me to pick up my phone a couple times during a movie, but this one had my attention the whole time trying to figure out how it was all going to come together at the end. Highly recommend, and I just saw that it's streaming on Netflix as well. It doesn't look like the Blu ray has dropped much in price, so I guess I'll look out for a used copy at some point. |

Kino claims their upcoming disc will be from a new (4K?) transfer, but I found this one more than sufficient. Wasn't a fan of this as kid, and seeing it on DVD didn't leave a big impression either. Enjoyed it a little more this time, appreciating the well realized period setting and the interesting polar shifts in tone. Not something I'll revisit often but it wasn't bad. https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US200_.jpg Had very vague memories of seeing this one back in the VHS era. It didn't click with me then, so I've been looking forward to giving it another shot all these years later. Nope. Still doesn't work for me. Nice to see Jessica Harper, but the Fellini-esque artifice comes across like a shallow excuse to trot out more of the same Kierkegaard in the Catskills schtick. As tired as it is here, it's used to much better effect in Hannah and Crimes later in the decade. Was good to satisfy the itch, but I walked away very disappointed. Ep 2 Planet Of The Slave Girls from https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US200_.jpg As cheesy as this was/is, it saved my evening from feeling like a total bust. The show looks great in HD and I'm very happy I sprung for it back around BF. |

Inferno
Nerve. Now the annoying social media whores can see themselves on the big screen. The soundtrack was kind of ok I guess. Snowden. This was pretty good and JGL did a great job. So when does the Oliver Stone Trump movie come out or does he want to do Obama first lol? re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?
In The Line of Fire...remembered liking it more when I think I saw in theater. Still good, but that love interest stuff was awful between Eastwood and Russo. Malkovich is a good baddie though. He's a good anything really.

Be Kind Rewind...I just enjoyed the hell out of this the second time around. More so than the first. Barely even remembered. So sweet and cultured. This and Eternal Sunshine are Gondry greats.
