That Awkward Moment. Sometimes Netflix surprises me and sends a new movie the same week of release. I understand why in this one's case.

Way of the Wicked, which aggressively advertises Christian Slater's presence on the cover despite his role amounting to little more than an extended cameo. Think Carrie crossed with The Omen Part 2, though obviously not as good as those films.

Full of extremely cheesy rear-projection, ham-fisted character exposition, and past their prime A list stars. Quite entertaining though, and the PQ was incredible. That was probably due to the predominantly flat, TV style lighting, but the images, outside of the oft used stock footage, were still quite dazzling. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...pL._AA160_.jpg Enjoyed this more than the first time I saw it. Tashlin's style, as Joe Dante says in his comments on the disc, very much in the spirit of a 50's era Mad Magazine. PQ wasn't nearly as impressive as I was hoping/expecting. For the most part colors looked a little wan and the image a little soft, though both those areas seemed to improve as the film went on. I have a feeling that if this gets put out here, it's going to look quite different (I can already see where the teal will end up becoming more pronounced). All in all, I personally prefer this discs look to something like Desk Set or King & I. Don't regret picking it up, but it seems to be a more modest upgrade over the R1 DVD from the Mansfield set. |

Beverly Hills Cop - almost forgot what the "R rated" Eddie Murphy was like.

So great to finally see this again. The original DVD was unwatchable once I got my first pj back in 2001, and I've missed it quite a bit over the years. Although it suffers a little for all the travelogue shots of characters walking across picturesque backdrops every ten minutes, a result of being the first Hollywood production granted the unprecedented access under glasnost, it still sports a literate script (by Tom Stoppard) about adults wrestling with moral dilemmas. Despite being outdated by historical events before the film even hit theaters, I was struck by how relevant aspects seem now when you think about the whole Snowden deal. An impressive collection of heavyweight supporting performances too with Ed Fox, Roy Scheider, Klaus Maria Brandauer, J.T. Walsh, John Mahoney, and amusingly (director) Ken Russell all contributing solid work. Absolutely love this film. The German Bd is the ONLY good release of this anywhere in the world. PQ isn't perfect. I did notice some fleeting artifacts and hiccups with the compression, but for the most part it was solid. I'd give the PQ a B/B+. If Twilight Time gets their hands on this I'd expect some subtle improvements across the board. |

Truly terrible monkey suit (though still not as awful as the one in KK V Godzilla), but a fun, anything goes kiddie matinee style romp that made me effortlessly regress about 40 years. And that's back to when kiddie matinee movies actually had balls- the heroes take 'smoke' breaks, they relax with hard liquor, and people get terminated with extremely, ruthless cold blooded prejudice. For as silly as it is, some elements were positively startling from today's whiny PC perspective. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...LL._AA160_.jpg Fun for the most part. It worked well as a non demanding nightcap. |

Lay The Favorite because Netflix skipped over my other selections.
I did not know Rebecca Hall played the bimbo. Great body and a work of art but a average face. http://geekgirlworld.com/wp-content/...748AACBDB3.png |
So she's the favorite you want to lay then?
:rimshot: Yeah, I'm seriously considering dumping my Netflix DVD account, it seems like they no longer care much about that portion of their business. What's a work of art? |

About last night (2014)
Really good update to the 1986 movie with Michael Ealy and Kevin Hart. Hart and Regina Hall cracked me up. |

It's funny, the DNR is pretty obvious in some scenes, but a lot of the movie looks very grainy and completely untouched. Could be better, but it's fine.

Which version (English or German) did you watch? Have you seen both and is the PQ consistent with each other? Sorry for all the questions but I'm on the fence about buying it.

Did you buy the Austin Powers Blu-ray set or each movie individually?
