Huge favorite that hits all it's marks- funny, spooky, romantic, tear jerking.
Easily IMO one of the best films of all time.

A couple eps into the season I had the feeling that plot was happening for no real reason than "stuff happens" and eventually it would be over.
The last three eps wiped those concerns away as events happened with force and purpose and epic resolutions. After the last ep I went thru the Ep specific threads in the TV section and wasn't surprised to see most people felt the way I did after it was over. An overall great season and one of, if not the best so far, season endings. Great to see pieces moving into place for an endgame. If they had to take an longer hiatus, at least they paused on a very high note.

"The Wolverine", -the extended "unrated" version available in the 3D set. I enjoyed this in the theater but this version was even better. A terrific film, and while I agree with those who didn't care for the "Silver Samurai" in the finale, it didn't bother me all that much this time. Great look, great sound. Really looking forward to Mangold and Jackman's next chapter in Logan's story early '17.

last few days...

https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US160_.jpg

Spoiler:
40 years to the day I first saw it, the day after it opened, in a saturday matinee with my new best friend, on the biggest screen my 9 year old eyes ever saw.
Even at that age I was a big film snob and would emphatically tell anyone I knew how the new movie was garbage compared to the original- a movie I'd been obsessed with since I was 7.
At some point in my twenties I loosened up and began to enjoy this one quite a bit. A good part of that was nostalgia, but not all. I still think it has a lot of virtues that make it pleasant entertainment- a game cast of likable and talented actors early in their careers, a great John Barry score, gorgeous Hawaiian location shooting, a sarcastic script that people erroneously thought was making fun of the property (it's clear to me it's deservedly mocking the crassness of the era in which it was made more than anything else) among others.

Wish I could say I had a blast watching it again, but it started out frustrating me with a lip synch issue I had a hard time figuring out (I finally solved it by setting the Oppo to 1080i). Had some other distractions too. Ultimately it just left me melancholy more than anything. That's what I get for saving up a viewing for a big anniversary.

Unlike KK, I don't think I've ever not been fully entranced watching this. Still one of the best sic-fi/horror films of all time.

I think most people are in agreement that it never got the personal connection to the soldiers that BoB was able to. However still a compelling story and excellent window into the life of a soldier during the Pacific theater of operations. Would you rather be in the Ardennes Forest in winter with no winter clothing or in the Pacific jungles with no water or toilet paper?

(Paradise Alley)

Never been a wrestling fan, and outside of a couple Rocky's I can take or leave Stallone- but I absolutely LOVE this movie. Though I always seem to forget just how much I enjoy until I happen to watch it again.
For what looked like another SS vanity project at the time (writes, stars, directs, and even sings the 'theme' song) he actually does a fine job all around making an old fashioned , entertaining B movie about three brothers, and a Damon Runyon-esque collection of supporting characters in Hell's Kitchen post war. I also give him kudos for playing the more obnoxious and unlikable brother (for at least the first two acts anyway).
Good period detail amid dreary, and authentic, NYC exteriors too.

War Dogs

Pretty entertaining though the poster and the American Gangster posters are knockoffs of Scarface.

I think I am a sucker for movies set in Miami.

Bad Moms...very enjoyable. Not nearly laugh out loud funny as I was led to believe and much more heart, but did chuckle and had a smile on face most of time. Very nicely done.

As charming as ever. Happy to finally have this in HD.

I've got three episodes left. I've been absolutely gobsmacked by how well crafted this has been.
The casting is excellent. Can't imagine a better Foggy, Karen, Ben Urich, Night Nurse, Kingpin or Matt. Usually I sigh and endure changes to the source material for live action adaptations. Here, everything seems to have been done with enormous thought, intelligence, and care. Everything is meshing beautifully.
With the exception of Guardians, this might just be my favorite live action Marvel property to date. I've enjoyed just about everything, but this is something special.

And, having recently upgrade my L/C/R speakers, this has one of the consistently best sound mixes that makes it a pleasure to see and hear.

Kubo and the Two Strings (3D)...wow. Just breathtaking. Beautiful, gorgeously rendered scenery. Heart, humor, thoughtful and action. Stunning. The 3D wasn't all that though. Thought it was a little flat for such lush landscapes. 4.5 stars.
