Naked Lunch...didn't like this one at all, unfortunately. just didn't gel with the surreal nature of it all. too bad too as i love Cronenberg and Weller.

Leviathan (1989)...little seen, underrated creature feature. such a blatant rip off of The Thing and Alien, but i love this one. sillier than i remember, but a lot of fun. Shout did a great job with this one.

Not the lesbian sex-romp I was led to believe. In fact, it's got zero nudity or anything explicit. Which is fine, as it was a really good movie. A bit abstract, and more than a little "artsy-fartsy", but it looked beautiful, and had a good deal to say about relationships, lesbian or otherwise. Very Buñuel-esque.

Youth (2015)...wow! did i love this one. so beautifully shot, so well acted. emotional, surreal, yet grounded in reality. just amazing. i haven't been this moved in quite awhile. loved everything about this journey. Caine and Keitel were in top form. can't recommend this one highly enough.

Fun movie. Gets extra points from me because it was something both of us could watch.

Zootopia

I thought Eugene Levy voiced the FOX and maybe Kristen Wiig voiced the bunny until I read the closing credits lol.

I agree, one of the best of 2014.

stunning. was expecting something totally different. thought it was turning into an amalgam of Poltergeist and Devil's Backbone, but took so many unexpected twists and turns that i had no idea were coming. this was suspense, mystery, thriller, horror, ghost story all wrapped into one. sublime film.

Wife gave up on this after 5 minutes. Efron plays a better douche than the straight man. Had a few laughs but the 40 years age difference between DeNiro and Plaza skeeved me out. They did make up for it at the end but still pretty weird throughout. Seemed like the screenwriters were wholly dependent on swearing and pushing the R rated envelope instead of developing some actual sophisticated comedy.

Watched this myself a couple nights ago. Greatly enjoyed it. I love the period they are depicting here so I think that might have something to do with how highly I'm rating it. I can tell this one is going to be very re-watchable for me in the future.

Watched the last 3 episodes of The X-Files: The Event Series this evening. I really hope they get to at least finish that last episode.

Jackie Brown. De Niro is such a simpleton in this movie lol. Bridget Fonda needs to come back to making movies.

Triple 9

Average and maybe it would have been better if they ignored the guys doing the heist and just focused on Affleck and Anthony Mackies characters.

Hail Caesar!

It seems the critics loved Hail Caesar but the average moviegoer didn't

I sincerely thought that it would be impossible for this movie to live up to the expectations that I had for it, but not only did it meet those expectations, it shattered them. For me, it's an instant classic. I do prefer its original title, though (That's What I'm Talking About).

Not a big fan of Jeff Daniels, but I enjoyed watching him in this. Very likable lead and decent chemistry with McGillis. Mandy Patinkin makes a good villain too. Tremendous period detail, and a good era setting (the 50's red scare) for a paranoid thriller. Interesting film to contemplate because it seems to tick off a lot of qualities I've been wishing more films like this would have (more down to earth menace, less comic book style plot/threat escalation, told from the point of view of an average person who doesn't outrace e fireball explosions, etc) yet at the end there was still a sense that it lacked something. Maybe I'm just a philistine, but the villains lack of a clear profit motive also seemed to keep the ending from having any pronounced cathartic impact. Probably just comes down to Yates directorial choices. I can envision a more foreign European director getting more out of the plot of an everyman coming up against murky government subterfuge and motivations.
On the plus side, it was cool to see a set piece set inside the real Strand bookstore.

JD melodrama with some amusingly risque exploitation elements- including Christopher Lee showing up as a sleazy strip club owner who tries to seduce the jailbait heroine. The pouty lead looks a lot like a UK version of a teenage Brigitte Bardot which made this very watchable. Oliver Reed also shows up in a minor supporting role and charismatically eclipses most of the higher profile characters.
Enjoyed this one a lot more than I ever expected too. BFI's region free disc is gorgeous. One of the best looking renditions of a B&W movie I've seen in a long time.

Side Effects...it was ok for a second time through. some ok concepts, but just fell a little flat for me.
