Don Siegal by way of Doug Sirk (but actually Richard Fleischer). Very satisfying blind buy for me. For some reason I'd never even heard of this until a month ago. The Eureka disc is a stunner. It's thrilling to see a 50's era Fox 'scope movie that actually has a FULL range of colors for a change. The blues in particular here richly span the gamut from teal to violet and every hue in between. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SL._AA160_.jpg 95 minutes of cute, nekkid french wimmen in kinky s&m tableau's. Probably because the girls were attractive and the images were frequently so beautiful (in particular a great use of color), and the disc PQ so high, that I didn't walk away resenting wasting the time watching it. The playful tone, most readily apparent in the endcaps, kept it from seeming insufferably pretentious (to me, anyway. YMMV). Also fun to see Michael Lonsdale (Drax from Moonraker) in an early role. |

Notting Hill Love this movie. Needed to fire up the HD DVD player. I think it's every guys fantasy to hook up with a movie star. Having been in the limousine business and been able to spend some quality time with a few choice women in movies I will admit the fantasy is particularly strong with me. One time I was picking up Debra Shelton at her hotel room, she turned around and bent over to get her last bag I think I almost made a mess right then and there. Talk about a fantasy.
One of the few roles I liked Julia Roberts in. |

Finally got around to Wreck-It Ralph, very fun, and I wish I could play Sugar Rush on the Wii U !

Stalingrad. Story was a bit slow at times and wanted a more encompassing story about the entire battle of Stalingrad but good for what it provided. The audio, reference in the battle scenes that were provided.

3 Days To Kill
What a weird movie. It's hardcore one minute then cutesy the next. Which is okay but just so, well, weird. Oh and I know I'm in the extreme minority in this but I will never understand the love for Amber Heard. She's just a weird looking chick with a look to her eyes that make me expect to hear her say "yarp" every time she opens her mouth to speak. That and she really sucks in the femme fatale role (not that the role was well written). |

Theme night
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...0,160,0,T_.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...-L._AA160_.jpg PQ on both was spectacular, especially TNP which in addition to its ravishing colors was one of the most dimensional looking discs I've seen yet. While I'm not a big fan of the Big Box O' Junk releases, this one is extremely well done. All media of one form or another ( no cheesy plastic trinkets). Quite interesting and beautifully designed and presented. A big winner all around. |

One of several rugged little 50's thrillers, tightly directed by Ida Lupino of all people. |

One of several rugged little 50's thrillers, tightly directed by Ida Lupino of all people. I can't really bring myself to spend $20 on the Blu-ray, however. There are really no extras to speak of, and since the film slipped into the public domain, you can watch it online for free. How much would it cost Kino to grab a film historian to do a commentary track? |
re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?
I'd been wanting a decent copy of it for years. Had flirted with buying the Kino DVD many times back in the day, but it was usually around $24. I settled for a quickie budget DVD for about $5, but it was pretty much unwatchable on a large screen.
I think I paid about $16-18 shipped for this last November. Easily the best it's ever looked on disc, but the print is also the worst I've seen used on a Bd so far. Quite a few jumped frames, spots, digs...it's got it all, including some odd audio issues. |

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug...not bad, but the magic from the original series is gone, unfortunately.

The Canterbury Tales from
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...DL._SL150_.jpg Went in expecting more scattershot, ribald vignettes, and that's exactly what I got. With the addition of full frontal Tom Baker nudity, a few years before he took up the scarf and screwdriver. Bonus! |

Veronica Mars The Dictator I am sick of this shit! None of the new big movies like Her, Robocop, and Lone Survivor are available at Netflix and I am stuck with Mark Cuban Magnolia Pictures Direct to Blu-ray releases. http://www.aoerway.com/pic/201401/12112331.jpg http://ftpcontent.worldnow.com/kfmbf...1398364447.jpg http://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/i...anvasWidth=640 |
