True and maybe 2000 and 2001 are an extension of the 90's

Reasonable Doubt

Lone Survivor

It was not bad but maybe I should have waited to rent it instead of doing a blind buy and adding more clutter.

Glad a Peter Gabriel song was used in the movie.

Pretty weak sauce, imo, given the potential inherent in the kinds of material he is satirizing. A few good laughs but a ton more you can see coming a mile away.
Although it does start to pick up when Madeline Khan enters midway through.

Consistent with the previous six eps. Great stuff. Funny that it took until now for me to realize that Mycroft is played by the showrunner Gatiss.

One of the best science fiction movies I've seen in the past decade, The Machine. Truly a brilliant and entertaining film.

Supposedly this film was one of Sean Connery's biggest regrets along with Meteor from the same year.
Don't know why. It's not a great movie, but he's definitely been in worse. The biggest problem is that none of the lead characters actually drives the plot. Like a carousel, they jump on, ride around in a circle, and then get off. The end-of-the-Batista-era atmosphere was interesting, but the production was slack with the (outstanding) high definition image revealing rain visible in the background as the characters prepare to drive around in their convertibles or their breath visible when it's supposed be sweltering heat. Film reminded me quite a bit of The Comedians based on a Graham Greene work with Burton & Taylor- also a flawed film, but a little more successful.

I expect this to be announced by Kino-Lorber for Region A any week now.

(Broken Arrow)
Good movie, though it seems easy to sentimentalize a conflict that has no relevance today. Good supporting cast with a remarkably young Will Geer and a near adolescent looking Debra Paget as the 14 year old(?!) love interest of middle aged Stewart.
Disc looks great. Colors tend to the pastel, but the image is creamy, velvety smooth without the appearance of being artificially manipulated or scrubbed.
No forced subs either.

Didn't think much of this the first time I saw it. Played better the second time around. Interesting character study with at times almost a neo noir sensibility. I remember it being critically drubbed upon release but I think aspects of it like the longer takes, the comfort it has with quiet scenes, a more languid pace as well as the cultural nostalgia (like a scene of characters shopping in a record store) give it a distinction it didn't have 34 years ago. What played like merely vulgar, high gloss exploitation then has a little more to offer now.
PQ generally looked good to me. Considering how hesitant Paramount is to even release it stateside, I doubt it will receive any better anytime soon. I would be satisfied to see a bunch more Paramount titles hit Bd with this same minimum effort...because it's still a solid step up over standard def on a large screen. The Moroder score sounded sensational though the rest of the soundtrack was functional but unremarkable.

Next to Bride Of Frankenstein and Creature, this is my favorite classic Universal monster movie.
For all the sins Universal has committed on this format, the job they did on all the monster movies makes up for a lot. Outstanding presentation.

Wow! What a diabolically fantastic blind buy this turned out to be! I don't recall even hearing about this movie until earlier this year. Now I'd put right up there with some of the absolute best of its era- from all studios.
I'd read that people weren't very impressed with the PQ, but I thought it looked just fine and very film-like. No complaints whatsoever from me.

Besides the solid job with the A/V there is a robust set of supplements including multiple commentaries and features. I have the player right now for Region B, but supposedly this is coded for all regions. Even if it weren't, it opens with an MGM tag, so I won't be surprised to see Kino get around to releasing it at some point here.

"Man Trap" from

I never paid attention to what the popular consensus was. For me, the new cgi makes these eps feel like "event viewing" now. If all years-later-revisionism were this reverential, discrete, and well implemented I would never have a problem with it.
Especially when they also include the original footage as a selectable alternative, just to be completely comprehensive. I'll never watch it again (as strictly entertainment), but it's 100% awesome that it is there nonetheless.

Yeah but they ruined it when "Nancy" shot first. ;)

Couldn't have said it better myself. They tweaked little bits here and there. Sometimes almost unnoticeable and always keeping in line with the original story.

George, did you see how they did that? You don't have to change the entire fucking scene every single time.
