Anakin looks horribly, horribly dorky on the 2-disc standard cover. And his body seems to be contorted into an awfully impossible position.

Gee, thanks.

I wrote the administrators and requested they change the title.

Boy. Apparently there are some things you just don't joke about, huh?

In fairness, most posters around here don't like vague thread titles, regardless of the subject. It's especially annoying when a thread title is misleading in an attempt to get more views. It's just a waste of some people's time.

Duh, of course not. Everyone knows Star Wars is sacred.

Excellent point.

I'm sorry, guys -- I thought it'd be good for a laugh: giving folks the needle a bit. Sorry if it caused any undue heartache/heartbreak/heart attacks, etc.

No doubt this error in my normally flawless judgment was influenced heavily by the strong drugs given to me this morning by my dentist.

Because they get changed with each release, so it's never the same movie twice.

I edited the thread title because that's simply not cool. And I won't be buying this one.

What was the original thread title? And I'm totally confused right now, I read a thread somewhere about this yesterday and it talked about different retailer exclusives. I thought it was this thread, but I guess not. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

The original thread title left out the "Clone Wars" part. Perhaps this is the thread that you're thinking of-

The normal version comes with the Anakin cover and the other cover (Storm Trooper?) is a Target exclusive.

Anakin cover sucks...sucks almost as much as Ziro the Hutt. I didn't really like this but may rent it to give it another shot now that my expectations are in check...

To be fair, the presence of any Star Wars media on Blu shows that Lucas isn't as phobic about releasing on the media. Remember The Phantom Menace wasn't well loved either, but most people recognized it's (eventual) release on SD DVD as a chink in the armor.

Most of us would love to see the Star Wars films on BD...but I think we know it will be several years, if that, until they arrive. I don't know if Lucas has any say in this release (because its Warner?).

Lucas picks the distributing studio, and he has final say on everything. Fox probably passed on this because they were tired of being dictated to regarding DVD releases. If it had been up to Fox, I have no doubt some version of the trilogy would have been amongst their launch titles.

I think you give Fox a little too much credit for their Blu-ray release strategy. There's nothing holding them back from releasing the Alien movies, but they haven't made even the slightest indication that they're interested in doing that.

With all due respect, the Alien films are not the Star Wars films. I can only imagine Fox was kinda used to the frequent cash infusions from the previous VHS and LD constant re-releasing of just the first three movies, and probably wouldn't mind doing it again, esp with six films now.

I'm just thinking back to the early days of DVD, when everyone (myself included) was asking if Star Wars was available. There was some talk that Lucas didn't want his titles used just to grow the format, and I can only imagine Fox thinking that they would be great titles for growing the format.

Both Lucas and Spielberg were both bearish when it came to DVD.

Despite coming out in the fall of 1999, "The Phantom Menace" was not released day-and-date on DVD. And I'm sure we all remember when Lucas said that he would only release the Star Wars movies on DVD after he completed the sixth movie. (TPM ended up coming out sometime in '01; AOTC was day-and-date with the VHS[IIRC]; the OT came out in '04, a full year before ROTS.)

It also took a long time for the Indiana Jones movies to finally get released.

I also seem to remember -- it was either Spielberg or Lucas -- who said he wouldn't release his movies onto DVD until some kind of hardware sales threshold was met.

I would expect the same will happen with the Blu-ray format.

I don't really get that rationale. Wouldn't some sales (no matter how small) be better than no sales whatsoever?

I know Blu-ray users are a small percentage of movie watchers/buyers, but they are a percentage, are they not?

A title can only debut on a format once. That is a huge marketing bullet. Lucas will wait until the installed BD base is large enough for SW's release to be an event and not a blip.

I was going to skip this but then I saw the cool lenticular cover and picked it up... now I'm thinking I should probably return it... I didn't love the movie (at all) and will probably wait until I can find this used... I paid $30 and think I should maybe put that towards something else...that damn cool cover was calling my name and now I've got buyer's remorse big time...good thing it's still sealed
