Check midway through the update.

Michael Corvin 07-23-08 02:30 PM

Amazon is showing 9/16 as well.

Jamers 07-23-08 03:10 PM

So how does The Mist stack up to The Fog?

Which version? Carpenter's was quite good but dated now. The new one, don't bother.

Here, I have the most recent comments on this in the following thread. I'm very excited to see the B&W version of this

A massive understatement. The original is far from a masterpiece, but it looks like Casablanca compared to the absolutely horrid remake.

Bitgod 07-30-08 03:48 AM

Aww man, a ton of BDs in Sept, and a bunch of video games in Oct. I'm going poor. Oh wait, already there. Guess I'll go pop over to Amazon now... :)

Ugh, it's not available on Amazon at the moment, if you go through their coming soon list, it's at the very end with a "notify me" button.

Oh well, ended up seeing that Night Watch and Day Watch blu-rays were on the coming soon list too, cha-ching.

Posted August 5, 2008 05:21 PM by Josh Dreuth

Weinstein Company have detailed the extras for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'The Mist' and '1408', both due to hit store shelves on September 16th. Both titles will have video presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks. As previously mentioned, 'The Mist' will come as a two-disc set with both the theatrical and "black-and-white" versions.
Extras for 'The Mist' include:

Commentary by Writer/Director Frank Darabont
deleted scenes with optional commentary
A Conversation With Stephen King And Frank Darabont
The making of THE MIST
A Look At the Creature FX
The Horror Of It All: The Visual FX Of The Mist
Drew Struzan: An Appreciation Of An Artist
Webisodes
Introduction to the black and white version
Trailer gallery

For '1408', extras include:

Commentary by Director Mikael Hafstrom and Writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski
Two alternate endings
Deleted scenes with optional commentary
The Secrets of 1408
Webisodes with John Cusack on 1408
Inside room 1408
Theatrical trailer

It appears no directors cut on 1408. Hey Weinsteins, way to give us the finger on your first Blu ray release!

bunkaroo 08-06-08 11:55 AM

I won't be getting the 1408 BD if it's the theatrical cut. Just wish I would have known this before the import went out of stock at Xploited.

(And yes I know there's an HD DVD available but I'm not interested in buying more discs on the format).

That's too wierd!
All the features from the 2-Disc set of The Mist made it onto the BRDVD, but they decided not to with 1408.
WTF?

macnorton 08-06-08 12:07 PM

The Mist has an excellent DVD already, but the Blu will certainly add to the experience. I'll grab it.

Unless I'm mistaken, this commentary track was only available when watching the director's cut. I suspect those specifications listed at bluray.com are incomplete.

I hope you're right. I'm just troubled by the explicit listing of 2 alternate endings. I mean, you wouldn't offer the Directors cut ending separately if you were including it in the directors cut, right?

Pardon my stupidity, but are the two cuts drastically different or is it just a different ending?

That's the main thing but there's more of
Spoiler:
the man in the air conditioning vent and some more violence
that I recall.

Stranger things have happened, I suppose, but check out this highdefdigest's review of the HD DVD import:

It doesn't work any better than the Director's Cut. A third version has a much longer and more drawn-out resolution that wastes too much time tying up loose ends.

So if the Blu-ray release mirrors this version, the theatrical cut will be dropped, with its ending appearing as the second "alternate" ending.

Elsewhere on that site there's mention that "1408" will appear in its "unrated" form for Blu-ray release. I really think the announcement on bluray.com is probably just incomplete. Like with the alleged -- but as yet credibly confirmed -- exclusion of lossless audio on the upcoming "Speed Racer" BD, I hate to see folks getting all worked up over an incorrect statement from an unofficial source.

You've talked me into it. I'm psyched about this release again.

Glad to hear it.:) Haven't actually seen the movie, yet, but I'd like to. The short story was terrific.

Yes, the writers mention the changes made for the Director's Cut several times (they were watching that version of the movie for the first time as they recorded the commentary).

Paired w/ the B&W version of the movie, it is a complete 1950s throwback package.

Michael Corvin 08-15-08 09:06 AM

Wow... that's sexy as hell. Only thing different I would have done is center "written for the screen & directed by" over Darabont's name.

*edit - damn, amazon's quick. They already have it updated.

Yavin 08-15-08 09:25 AM

I love that cover art. I guess it's a Drew Struzan (only makes sense).

Matthew Ackerly 08-15-08 09:32 AM

Great art... That was the insert in the DVD version.

Gizmo 08-15-08 10:32 AM

Pretty damn sweet cover art.

RocShemp 08-16-08 06:56 PM

Now that's a cover!

Copper Blue 08-26-08 08:07 AM

Someone at AVS has 1408 and says its the theatrical cut only. This blows. What's the point of having these 50 GB discs if studios continue to short change us???!!!
