That does suck; I'm seriously considering canceling my pre-order. I'm aware that the alternate ending is on the disc as an extra feature, but it just isn't the same. Moreover, it might not be in HD.

I didn't see that alt cut of 1408 yet - any good?

OK, a different poster on AVS has the disc too, and says it IS the directors cut. Now I don't know WHAT to think.

The inclusion of the commentary track which was apparently recorded for the Director's Cut leads me to believe that's what it is.

Wow, that's like a badass 80's VHS cover (even if it's a 50's homage too).

The "Director's Cut" ending is a little better than the theatrical cut ending, but frankly niether one works all that well. It's clear that the writers and director had no idea how to end the movie and shot three or four different versions in the hope that one of them would be OK.

Don't a lot of movies based on Stephen King's stories have that problem?

LeBougre 08-29-08 07:38 AM

Gizmo 08-29-08 12:09 PM

According to the Mist thread on bluray.com, yes, The Mist is region free. Not sure about 1408 though.

Paired w/ the B&W version of the movie, it is a complete 1950s throwback package.

holy shit. That was so much sweeter than the DVD cover art

Both the Mist and 1408 are region free according to http://bluray.liesinc.net/

Has 1408 been reviewed yet? I wanted to know if the Director's Cut ending really is the ending used on the film, or if they went back to the Theatrical Cut. I liked the Theatrical A LOT more than Director's and hope they leave that in.

I have the disc. It IS the Directors Cut ending, though the Theatrical (and another) are present on the BD disc as well.

blu-ray.com has a review up for The Mist. Even though I have the DVD, I will upgrade to Blu, since the film was great and the visuals were pretty bitchin'.

I've watched both versions of The Mist on Blu-ray, and I totally agree with Darabont. The Black and White version truly carries the essence of The Mist better than the color version. Who says Black and White doesn't transfer well on HD!

Gorgeous transfer.

I ***cannot*** wait to see both the color and black and white versions of this film on BD. The PQ on regular DVD was spectacular. So I can only imagine how great this will look on BD. And I've yet to see the B/W version. Bring it.

Let me just put it to you this way... the CGI looks ten times better in black and white... and that's just the beginning. The cinematography totally has a whole new life.

That's actually the cover art for the booklet that came with the dvd.

Michael Corvin 09-16-08 07:16 AM

uh... so what's the best deal?

Yavin 09-16-08 11:42 AM

Just picked this up. A note about the Canadian release: It does not have the revised cover art (as the US release does). It has the same cover art as the 2-disc DVD. Doesn't look like the cover is reversible either, though I can't be sure. It's still a nice enough cover art anyway.

I grabbed mine from Best Buy for $22.51 today, it was a good enough deal I felt.

PerryD 09-16-08 04:06 PM

Is the B&W version on disc 2? I suppose I'll rent that one from Blockbuster Online then.
