just got a 360 HD DVD

So my samsung 46" 6 Series is coming on wednesday and I couldnt afford a blueray so I went for a 360 HD DVD add on until I get round to it, I know they are just about dead for the future but there seems to be a nice back catalogue still available. So my question is what are the top 5 HD DVD's for picture quality?

Also Does anyone know if this player upscales DVDs and if so does it do a good job of it?

Planet Earth
The Matrix
Heroes Season 1
Bourne Trilogy (maybe not the best looking, but still exclusive and worth grabbing)

If you have a Movie Stop around, they tend to have a lot of used HD DVDs for around $6 w/ return guarantee.

I personally say skip Heroes Season 1.

Beowulf: Director's Cut
Planet Earth
Galapagos (a 3 episode series similar to Planet Earth but focusing on the Galapagos islands, incredible image.)
Batman Begins
Blade Runner

Check out the threads on this at HighDefDigest.com or avsforum.com. There are extensive lists of titles reviewed by picture/audio quality.

Really, there aren't many "bad" HD-DVDs. You'll love the player (I assume you got it for REALLY cheap, as I now see them for $35 or less in stores).

Yeah Cheers I got this really cheap Im in the UK and got it from my local Gamestation for £24.99 with Jarhead and Inside man free... think that works out at around $49 you guys are always a bit cheaper than us but Im happy at that.

I actually thought at that price they must be tosh but going by how many people still use the drives they must be OK viewing, cant wait for the TV coming to see what its like.

I love my HD-DVD player... I got about 20 HD-DVDs and don't plan on selling them anytime soon. I still rent tons of them from Netflix.

Yeah I dont think HD DVD took off as well in UK but there seems to be a few kicking about on ebay.

Are these Region Free by any chance?

I've got about 120 HD films and I find the format to be just as good as BD...

The good thing about HD failing is I get great prices on the same films that are avaliable on BD for a quarter of the price.

HD DVD does not have region coding. I believe they are region 1 for standard DVD though.

It upscales, but I think I read that you need the hdmi connection for that. Anyone?

the 360 upscales on its own, but you need to be running through hdmi or vga.

Good luck with the new player. I've had one for a while and recently got a PS3. I know I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but I haven't been that impressed with Blu-Ray thus far. Pirates of the Carribean is about the the only title of watched so far that even matches the HD DVDs I have.

So I still perfer my 360 HD DVD add-on ...if the movie is something that came out on HD DVD. Enjoy!
