Oh man... people were complaining that Universal was putting out crap titles on HD DVD...but Sony takes the cake.

Southland Tales may be worth a rental...everything else is destined for the Wal-Mart dump bins.

Universal was putting out some seriously crappy titles on HD DVD. They definitely put out some good ones though, too, but so has Sony. Whether it's a matter of releasing crap titles, sub-par transfers, lack of lossless audio, or eschewing extras from past releases, there isn't a single studio that's completely above reproach. They've all gotta release a certain amount of the crap titles, though. More titles on the shelf at least give customers the illusion of choice.

Trust me, I have Cat People, Timecop and Seed of Chucky to prove this. But this was during a format war when ever title seemed to matter...but what is Sony doing with these? Is anyone asking for any of these titles? I've only ever heard of Southland Tales because SMG is in it. They have got to have better titles sitting around ready to be released.

I'll take credit. For the past six months I've been organizing a letter-writing campaign to get them to finally release National Security.

Okay, not really. I'm still happy with my SD copy.

Still, if they released nothing but the "good" stuff, we'd all be broke. I would, anyway. Heck, I'm already broke! Plus, if I may roughly paraphrase Beavis and Butt-head:

Butt-head: "Imagine if there were 500 channels and one of them was cool."
Beavis: "Yeah, but, if one of them was cool, why would you need the other . . . uhm . . . three hundred and . . . uhm . . . twenty seven . . ?"
Butt-head: "Because! If you didn't have all the channels that sucked, how would you know that the one channel was cool?"

I thought Revolver was cool for the first half...and then it shit the bed. PASS...also I'd discourage a blind buy on Mirrormask... definitely RENT it first - I was really looking forward to it and ended up hating it... Sony is really bringing on the lowrent titles IMO.

There's only 2 movies I want in HD that stars Martin Lawrence: Bad Boys and Bad Boys II. Hopefully those are announced soon.

Titles are titles. All studios have their fair share of good and bad ones and at some point you do have to release the bad ones. The only one I'm interested in will be Revolver.

True, they have to get to them at some point, but I just wonder how many people will buy them when they're still $20, or even more at some B&M stores. I think they would do better in a few years when prices (hopefully) come down to $10-15.

Heck, when I saw the announcement of titles like XXX: State of the Union, at first I expected to see that they were part of a new budget line.

The Sony catalog titles regularly go on sale for $10 to $15 range at places like Frys.

Who you gonna call on Blu-ray? Not 'Ghostbusters,' with Sony sacking the planned Fall debut of the comedy classics.

As reported this past July, during this year's Comic-Con in San Diego the studio hosted a Blu-ray booth on the show floor that touted an October next-gen debut for both 'Ghostbusters' and 'Ghostbusters 2,' complete with a large overhead banner advertisement (featuring the tagline "Get Slimed in High-Def!")

Though Sony offered no further specs or official details on the Blu-ray releases, retailers had begun to report a planned October 21 street date, designed to tie in with a new Ghostbusters video game from game maker Activision.

But now it looks as if fans will have to wait a lot longer for the Bill Murray-Dan Aykroyd faves in high-def. Despite mounting anticipation, Sony never officially announced either 'Ghostbusters' film for Blu-ray, and now we've received word that despite the promotional push at Comic-Con, the titles are no longer on the studio's 2008 release slate.

No reason has been cited for the delay, though Activision also recently pushed back the street date for their Ghostbusters video game to next year, meaning it's likely the Blu-rays have also been held back to coincide with the release.

Sony just slimed us.

Which both seem to be locked in stasis, in one sense or another (including the meandering pub deals with the game), until the marketing push for the 25th Anniversary of the original. I was looking forward to HD Ghostbusters this Halloween, too.

Blame Activision before anyone else....they are the ones who announced they had decided not to publish the GB video game (this info came out right around the same time as Comic-con)...Sony was planning the Blu-rays to coincide with the game's release...now we just have to wait for another publisher to pick up the game for release next year and I'm sure the BDs will be rescheduled as well....

At least Sony is giving us Blue Streak instead....

Typically they are $13.99 or $14.99 and its usually the same asortment as last time with a few new additions. They have not been $10 since HD DVD died.

Im sure the announcement of Palin for VP had something to do with this.

Ah, was looking forward to some HD Ghostbusters.
