Amazon.com HD-DVD Player Gift Card!
Just got an e-mail from Amazon giving me a $50 Promo Code good for 1 year for buying my Xbox HD-DVD drive way back in Nov 06:
As someone who purchased an HD DVD player from us before February 23, 2008,* you might like to hear about a special offer available from Amazon.com. New technologies don't always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com |
Well that's pretty nice of them. I wonder if my friend ordered his HD-DVD player from them.
I ordered one from Amazon in '07. Didn't get anything in the e-mail yet, but it's kind of funny how HD DVD keeps paying off. I can't complain between all the discounts, BOGOs, rebate movies, and so forth that were offered for HD DVD. Getting and extra $50 is just icing on the cake if it comes through.
Got the e-mail today, too, then immediately used it to get Twilight Zone: The Definitive Season 5 and Enchanted
Wow is all I can say. I just read the e-mail from Amazon and was shocked that they were doing this as well. I had ordered HD-A30 on 2-20 as a backup player. I had purchased a HD-A2 from WalMart when they had the $99 special and I had also picked up a Xbox 360 add on drive from Best Buy when they had the glitch where you could get box sets as your 2 free along with Heroes. I haven't got my gift card from BB yet. The HD-A30 at Amazon was $129.99 when I bought it and now the least expensive new one they list on their site is $279.99 from a vendor . Weird. I guess they're a collector's item now. So maybe soon WalMart will do something similar.
Awesome! Just checked my email and the coupon was waiting for me!
Same here!
I got my A2 from Wal-Mart last December. I wish they'd get on board with this give back like Best Buy and now Amazon.
If you go to slickdeals you would know that Wal-Mart is allowing returns for Hd-dvd players
Who said anything about returning the HD-DVD player? That's not what we're talking about here. I'd like a $50 GC from Wal-Mart. These $50 GCs from Best Buy and Amazon don't require you to return your player.

Apparently this promo is good for $50 PER PLAYER up to $500...so if you bought a whole bunch of players, the one code you will receive will include the number of players you bought.
I don't have the fine print but I've seen this confirmed over at the AVS Forum. |
Wow, I bought one from Amazon in July '07 and returned to circuit city using a friend's receipt. Also bought another in Jan '08 (when they included the 3 extra movies) which I sold on CL for what I paid for it. Can't wait to get my gift cards!!!
got mine :-D overjoyed!

Meearearrggh. I bought two HD players. If Amazon's passing some around, I want mine. I certainly didn't expect anything like this. |
I noticed the date has a * next to it - is there some fine print to this?
I just checked and my purchase was Feb 22, but shipped Feb 23 (no email yet) |
Bought a player in August and one in November and just opened my email with a 11:27am time stamp with my $100 gift card code in it. So far I only ordered Bonnie and Clyde Blu...I'll hold on to the rest in hope of a B1G1 or different B2G3 promotion.
Now if only Onecall.com offered this same deal (bought my A1 back in Sept '06), I would be set!
Bought my A30 from them in October - got the $50 code today. Another reason why Amazon is my favorite e-tailer. :D
Bought A2 in early August and nothing yet, but I was just wondering if they were going to join the party. Good for them - they will probably get my purchase when I buy a PS3 if they ever have a promo or price reduction.
I'll use it to buy more HD DVDs. :D
*fingers crossed*
I bought my A1 in September 2006. It doesn't look like they are doing them my purchase date. |
Call them and request one.
My girlfriendīs mother bought it for me on her account on electronics expo via amazon, would she receive the email? If so, can she transfer the credit to my account?
DVD Polizei-
I'm with you...I'm filling my cart with more HD-DVD's before their gone. |
I bought a 360 HD DVD player back in 2007 I sent them off an email because I hadn't received the GC.
Just called them and requested it. They wanted my order number. Good thing I saved it. :D

Check your SPAM folder...mine got sent there.
Hmmm...mine won't apply to my account. Keeps saying
"There's something wrong with the gift certificate/card claim code you entered. Please check for transposed digits, omitted digits, and similar errors." Grr. |
I bought that A2 Amazon had with the free movies back in August last year for what ended up being about $179 for the Toshiba player itself. THEN Wal-mart had the $99 deals on the same player and I felt like a real chump. THEN there were those deals at BB and CC where people were getting HD-players and movies for practically free and I felt like a real chump again. THEN CC and BB started giving people gift cards for THEIR HD-DVD players and I felt like a bigger chump. Now at least Amazon is giving customers who bought HD-DVD players $50 back, still not as much savings as I would have had if I had waited for those other deals, but a great bit of news to hear.
Of course, they have not sent ME any email about it all, so I still feel like a chump. |
HOly flurking shit! This is rad! I'm getting one too, since I got an HD-DVD right around Christmas. The $100 combined between Amazon and BB has paid for the machine! W00t.
I didn't get a GC for my purchase of a Toshiba HD-A1 back in October 2006. So I just emailed Amazon about it and 15 minutes later they sent me an email with a $50 GC. Thanks for starting this thread or I wouldn't have known about the offer.
Sweet, just got mine! I bought a 360 player back in December and got the Bourne Trilogy free. Then in Feb they gave me a $100 credit when they dropped and now this $50 means I got the player, King Kong, Bourne Trilogy and the 5 free by mail (which I just got last week) for $29.99!! Great bargain
My code showed up in my email. I bought the XBOX 360 add on in the beginning of Febuary '08 when they had the "gold box deal" for $79.99. I sent off for the 5 free movies and now a $50 gift code. Wow.... It's almost like they paid me to take all this of their hands.
Sent an email to Amazon CS last night. Had my coupon waiting for me this morning. I don't understand why Amazon did this, but I love 'em for it.
