Check my signature - 130+ so far! I have a mix of the mainstream and not so much (Run Lola Run, The Lives of Others, etc.). The Blu-ray mix itself needs to become more diversified in order for personal collections to become more eclectic. The person who made the comment is generalizing based on gamer perception. I watch movies more than gaming, and my standard DVD collection attests to that.

I am always astonished at how much crap there is on Blu Ray. Stuff I wouldn't watch if it were free on cable, and yet there's a thirty dollar high def disc of it.

Man, I couldn't agree more! I mean....WTF??? I haven't even heard of some of these abominations. Oh, FWIW, HD DVD has its fair share of clunkers too.

15 of them were free (10 in store, 5 by mail) from the Walmart "secret" sale. I forget which 10 I picked up in store since I took a few of them back and exchanged them for different ones at the Walmart the next town over. I know TMNT was one that I returned.

Resident Evil 3

My PS3 just shipped so I haven't received it yet, but I have two titles from my HTPC days. (I mostly rent.)

I'm thinking of preordering Batman (1966), but $27? Ouch!

So what do you have, PS3 owner? Are you a bonehead who's Blu-ray collection starts and ends with Michael Bay, or are your a connoisseur of film?
1st, how much weight can the opinion of someone in a Meet The Spartans
thread hold? A guy in a Meet The Spartans thread taking a shot at gamers,
think about that for a moment. It's gold Jerry, gold

2nd, I have things like Across The Universe, Gone Baby Gone, No Country For
Old Men, The Lives of Others and Pan's Labyrinth, but I also have TMNT, all
3 Pirates films, all 5 of the Potters and The Rock among many others. What
does that say about me and my connoisseur status? Nothing, that's what.
Not from just a list of my Blu-ray collection. Remember, SDVD collections may
have many films in them that others would consider classics but the owner
decided not to upgrade for any of a number of reasons.

Fanboys exist everywhere, don't let them bother you.

I've had a PS3 for about a couple of months and don't use it for games. Started buying Blu-ray titles in October before getting the PS3 because of all the great sales. It helped me build up a collection fast and to replace most of the titles I owned on HD-DVD inexpensively. That made my decision easier to get out of HD-DVD after it lost the format war.

2001: A Space Odyssey
300
American Psycho
Apocalypto
Arlington Road
Aviator
Black Hawk Down
Blade Runner
Bullitt
Cars
Casino Royale
Cast Away
Chicago
Close Encounters of the Third Kind

First Blood
Flight of the Phoenix

Flyboys
The Fountain
Full Metal Jacket - Deluxe Edition
Galápagos: The Islands That Changed the World

I have to say though, I don't see why there's a reason to get offended. The PS3 demographic is just a generalization. Just because the average PS3 owner may be more likely to buy action and sci-fi movies, that certainly doesn't mean they all do. I can still recognize that without feeling upset that I don't necessarily fit that mold. This enthusiasts' forum probably isn't a good representative sample anyway.

The Blu-rays:

Bad Santa
Déjà Vu
The Dirty Dozen
The Patriot
The Prestige
Purple Rain
The Road Warrior
The Simpsons Movie
Species
Stir of Echoes
Superman: The Movie
The Wild Bunch

I've had my PS3 for about 3 months and I own exactly 1 console game.

The HD DVDs:

2001: A Space Odyssey
Babel
Black Rain
A Clockwork Orange
The Frighteners
The Shining
Swordfish (wanted TMNT)
John Carpenter's The Thing

A few of those titles were obviously obtained through the rebates from each perspective format, otherwise I'd have never even considered purchasing films that don't carry over every special feature from their standard DVD counterparts. I always like to make that perfectly clear.

I don't offhand, though I should for insurance purposes. I use a spare bedroom to store them. Three 6-foot high double depth shelving units hold around 2100 of them along one wall and I have TV sets, BD/HD DVD and more DVD along another wall.
