The Limited Edition artwork has been posted at dvdactive and it's very attractive. Any chance you'll add that to the OP? For all the time that I spend at this forum, I've never posted links to artwork.

I wish that USB drive that they are bundling with the set was shaped like the batman ninja star. That would have made that set really worth buying.

RocShemp 04-07-08 11:46 PM

Any official word on the transfer? Remaster or port?

Supermallet 04-08-08 07:17 AM

I highly doubt we'll get any kind of official word until much closer to the release.

The flash drive is only included with the standard DVD set, not the Blu-ray, for what that's worth...

Drexl 04-08-08 08:05 AM

Doesn't the flash drive have to be shaped normally so it doesn't get in the way of other USB peripherals? A star shape would block other ports.

Then again, at 128MB you're probably not going to actually use it anyway.

Mr. Cinema 04-08-08 10:12 AM

OP has been udpated. The disc will include all extras from the HD DVD, including the PiP feature and the same TrueHD audio track.

Why are they giving us a Thumbdrive anyway? 128MB? Those are like free in kids meals now. Does it make Blu-ray players Profile 1.2 or something? I must be missing something because all I see is them giving us a useless 128MB thumbdrive that serves no purpose, right?

mike2 04-08-08 10:23 AM

128 is sad. At least make it a gig. So when will this be available for pre-order on Amazon? $50 is a lot for the BD release but i like the cover so it has me sold. Also, the movie cash is a nice little add-on.

Good news. This is a pretty sweet looking set, and it would've been really lousy if they'd left off the TrueHD track. Hopefully they learned their lesson with Superman Returns.

Maybe there's some leftover stock from when Batman Begins was in theaters. :)

I believe both versions are up for pre-order now at Amazon.

single disc: $19.99

limited set: $34.95

bluetoast 04-08-08 02:13 PM

Thanks for the heads up, just pre-ordered the Gift Set.

Mr. Cinema 04-09-08 12:18 PM

From reading on blu-ray.com, it looks like Batman Begins will be a direct port of the HD DVD. No new encode. And sounds like all of the catch-up titles will just be ports, including The Matrix set.

Now I don't have to spend additional $$$

I bet this will be the same with Universal titles.

Geauxn 04-10-08 10:45 PM

Here's the preorder links:

Limited Edition Gift Set Bluray

Bluray

Luckily I just got to $2500 spent on my Amazon Visa so I just got a $25 gift certificate, so my total was less than $13 for the Limited Edition Bluray and normal shipping.

RocShemp 04-11-08 07:42 AM

Though I'm relieved this means I wont have to upgrade my current HD DVD copy, I am disappointed that WB didn't put the effort to make a new 4K master for Batman Begins. That's be an easy sell for people like me that are still holding on to their HD DVD copies until something better comes along.

And it will be even less once you see TDK with the movie cash.

A new 4K master for a film that's less than 3 years old? Really? A new encode I could see, but this is not an older film that needs a new master.

Yavin 04-11-08 02:56 PM

That Blu-ray Limited Edition better impress, as I passed on Batman Begins on HD DVD yesterday for $12.99. I guess it's better to wait for the BD for this anyway, as I'd prefer all films in the series on the same high-def format.

Supermallet 04-11-08 04:47 PM

I think you're confusing the 1080p encode with the 4K master. If done right, a 4K master should be of such high quality that it will not need to be redone for a decade or more after the initial master is made. An individual encode may have flaws due to the compression process that are not present in the 4K master, thus only a new encode would need to be made, not a whole new master.

RocShemp 04-11-08 05:14 PM

I see. I was under the mistaken impression that Batman Begins didn't get a 4K master at all. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

While that may be true, Ive been told by an insider that one of the major issues with the Matrix Ultimate HD-DVD will be resolved on the BD. ;)

I assume you're referring to the Animatrix coming in 1080p? I've seen that reported elsewhere as a possibility.

I thought it was confirmed? I still have mine downloaded on my 360, unwatched. Shame since I enjoyed Aeon Flux and its the same 'style'.

bunkaroo 04-12-08 01:32 PM

Well, given the source was DigitalBits, you could understand my reluctance to state it as "confirmed" 'round these parts.

You mean it will no longer have The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions? ;)

ha, seriously. i really hope the movies and the animatrix will be available individually on BD when they're released.

RockStrongo 04-12-08 05:22 PM

Ah, I dont read the digital bits, so I didnt know it was known. Yes, i was told that they had an HD transfer for it which they couldnt find for the hd-dvd version.

DeanoBKN 04-13-08 02:17 PM

Sold on the LE!

Gizmo 04-16-08 10:05 AM

According to the Bits....

Also, a number of you have asked about the BD transfers/encodes for V for Vendetta (5/20), Batman Begins (7/8) and The Matrix Trilogy (TBA 4th Qtr), so here's the reply from the studio:

"Each of these releases will repurpose the encode used on the HD release. They looked beautiful on HD and will look beautiful on BD. Each of these titles will be released on BD50s. We are very excited that the Matrix titles will be coming out on BD... they are going to look awesome. And with Animatrix added (not part of the HD release) it should be terrific."
Same transfer.

Doesn't matter. The AVS 1000X Screen capture test will prove that the Blu-Ray version is "slightly" better. rotfl

Gizmo 04-16-08 10:19 AM

Yes, I fully expected that comment

Mr. Cinema 04-16-08 10:22 AM

When the third film comes out, I bet we'll get a Nolan Director's Cut version of Batman Begins. Too bad that's probably at least 2 years away.

bretski 04-16-08 10:23 AM

No surprise to me that Warner would use the same encodes. I personally doubt that Animatrix will see a separate release on BD.

Well.. the HD-DVD versions were available separately overseas, so there's hope.

Pricing will be a bitch though.

Gizmo 04-16-08 10:32 AM

No date on Matrix just "fall".

What makes you think that the current cut isn't Nolan's preferred version?

RocShemp 04-17-08 06:37 PM

I too doubt there is some waiting-to-be-released director's cut in Nolan's private vaults but that wouldn't stop a studio from releasing an extended cut just to warrant a hi-def double-dip. I'm not saying it should happen but it might.

As for this set, something tells me I'll buy it anyway. :(
