You would expect the trailer to be. I have come to think that as being standard on a Warner Blu-Ray

Oh well. Saves me rebuying it I guess. I have to admit though this is one I hoped WB would improve on for the BD.

Really? The trailer is in high def on the HD-DVD. Why wouldn't they leave it that way on the Blu-ray?

Yep - don't know why they did it this way.

RocShemp 07-05-08 06:57 AM

Actually the trailer was upscaled to 1080p on the HD DVD. It just seems the 480p video isn't upscaled on the Blu-Ray.

I was able to find Batman Begins at BJ's for $18.99 today. Most of the blu-rays there are seems overpriced at least for a wholesale club at $27.99. But pleasantly surpised to get Batman. SO chalk BJ's up along with Blockbuster breaking the street date.

Anyone know if the Collectors edition will be normal DVD sized box like Dirty Harry was? It looks just like the DVD collection. I hate the way the Dirty Harry collection looks with all my Blu-rays

Yep it's like dirty harry, an inch taller than all the other blu-rays, WB lost a sale with me there, but I might eventually get the standard BD. I don't mind the bonnie and clyde cases but the DVD sized releases are annoying

Giles 07-07-08 09:22 AM

so the movie ticket is only available with the limited edition - right? I hope AMC theatres are included because of the last two movie tickets I've bought from Disney titles (Prince Caspian/Wall-E) they do not include AMC theatres.

oh and more importantly will the tix be good for the IMAX engagements?

Gizmo 07-07-08 11:03 AM

Free ticket is only available in the LE (or giftset...not sure what they are calling it).

Highly doubt that it will be good at AMC. "Hollywood Movie Money" is never good at AMC. But Regal is the largest theater chain in the country...

Giles 07-07-08 11:18 AM

and IMAX??

Does Regal own AMC? I've used every kind of free ticket at Regal theaters with no problems.

I don't understand why any theater would not accept the movie money tickets. They get re-imbursed by the studio.

I don't think AMC and Regal are affiliated. I go to AMC 95% of time, and I have noticed more and more Movie Money vouchers are not good there.

StephenX 07-07-08 02:37 PM

Mine shipped today, preordered it last week...

I'm hoping the hollywood movie money is good at the local Regal IMAX (Mall of GA) so I can see TDK that weekend for a little less rather than $15. (I think it does, the Regal IMAX is inside Regal Mall of GA, so I assume it would work. Guess I'll have to wait and see...

I've not had problems with movie money at Regal, but I've noticed that for Caspian and Wall-E tix it actually states on the back that AMC theatres do not accept the tickets (damn them) I'm just curious to see if I can apply the movie money to the IMAX screening at the Smithsonian's Udvar Hazy theatre - I'm thinking it's not applicable.

fumanstan 07-07-08 04:00 PM

I could swear I've used one of those vouchers at an IMAX theater before. It just takes off up to a certain value of the ticket, as IMAX movies here are a bit more expensive.

tylergfoster 07-07-08 06:16 PM

AMC does not own Regal. The reason it is confusing is because the same company does the pre-shows for both theaters, the AMC Movie Watchers Network and the Regal First Look, with the same announcer and graphical setup.

I think you are right.

A friend of mine bought the Blu-ray gift set and said the packaging is pretty shoddy. Anyone else get the set? Comments?

Not what I want to hear since I have the set coming from Columbia House.

Gizmo 07-08-08 09:51 AM

Its a flimsy cardboard slipcase with some postcards and a ticket to Dark Knight. Pass.

The DVD set includes more stuff for a cheaper price as well.

acubfaninmd 07-08-08 10:08 AM

ordered my copy from amazon yesterday and got it today got to love amazon.

I picked it up last week and it's really not worth the money they're asking for it. The standard BD is the way to go.

bluetoast 07-08-08 12:51 PM

Yeah the packaging is awful. When I saw the lenticular art, I thought "cool"...but when I felt the box, wow...very flimsy. Maybe I'm spoiled from the MGS4 Limited Edition box.

Anyway, the box is about as useful as the King Kong Production diaries briefcase.

But at least I got a ticket to TDK (for up to $7.50 reimbursement).

DthRdrX 07-08-08 03:16 PM

Got mine from WB store today. Looks like someone stepped on the cardboard case.

fumanstan 07-08-08 03:18 PM

That makes me glad I only ordered the standard Blu-ray disc. I think the shotty case would bug the heck outta me.

DthRdrX 07-08-08 03:39 PM

Well the blu-ray case is inside the cardboard so you can just take it out and no one would know the difference.

Same here, did you get a shipping notice yet?

JTH182 07-08-08 09:19 PM

Picked mine up today. If I didn't get it for free (gift card) I would have gone with the regular BD. The crap that comes with the LE is nothing special, but it's cool to look at.

I'm just so happy to finally have BB on BD!! The prologue looked and sounded great as well

mzupeman2 07-08-08 09:28 PM

I bought the standard edition on Blu-Ray today. I don't know why some people treat this transfer like it was subpar, it really wasn't. I thought it was excellent.

Arthur Dent 07-08-08 09:54 PM

How flimsy is the case compared to the Kubrick collection?

Arthur Dent 07-08-08 09:56 PM

It wasn't free. There's opportunity cost in using that gift card, and you could have used it on something else that was a better value.

But don't worry, I got the Gift Set, too. :)

DthRdrX 07-08-08 10:11 PM

I might as well say that I also was blown away by both the audio and video of the prologue. Makes me yearn for a true constant height setup in the future.

Negative. I only receive shipping emails half the time from CH anyway.

Moopher 07-08-08 10:44 PM

I know this thread is about BB, but anyone have comments on 'Gotham Knight' BD? I wanted to know if it was worth getting for better quality, or if i I should just go with that badass steelbook?

Goldberg74 07-08-08 10:46 PM

I went to Fry's today and saw BB on BD for $20... then I turned around and saw BB on HD-DVD for $10.

I was torn.

... I got the $10 HD-DVD.

 why not?

pro-bassoonist 07-08-08 11:07 PM

If anyone is in downtown Chicago tonight there is a huge promo going on until midnight (?) where the Dark Knight (logo/image) is projected on the Sears building, plenty of actual footage as well. Plus some interesting posters and other promo materials.

A lot of people complaining on WBBM about the horrible traffic jam caused by fans of the film.

Pro-B

That is so awesome. I'm jealous.

Supermallet 07-09-08 01:35 AM

Just to note, I projected Batman Begins twice today on a large size movie theater screen, using a 2K projector, running it off my PS3, and it looked absolutely amazing. So for those who say they're disappointed with the transfer, I'm going to go ahead and tell them they can shove it. :)
