I went ahead and ordered BSG S1 from ezdvd as a blind buy. I like the packaging on that version anyway.

They have a good price on Star Trek TOS too ($68 AUS) but I'm not sure I like Star Trek TOS enough to spend $70+ on a season of it.

Then the star trek set is not that great a deal because you miss out on most of the extras which are on the sd/dvd side and it would be hard to resale it in the U.S. if you ever decide to get rid of it.

steelpotato 04-25-08 04:28 PM

I'd assume that sd side of the star trek set would be r4, but just as a point of interest my kiss kiss bang bang combo i got from ezydvd is region 1 on the sd side.

Well, all I know is that Australia is R4 (which answered the original question about whether it's R2 or not). I do NOT know if the SD flip side of the Trek TOS S1 HD set is R4 or R1. Common sense would seem to support R4 as that answer too, but I personally do not know for certain.

Weekly ezyDVD Update

The site is back up (must've been too much partying for ANZAC day), and BSG is available again. If you don't have it and want it, this is too good a price to pass up IMO. Some other titles are back in stock, while some are gone (maybe for good). The greenback improved against the rooback, so things are marginally less expensive exchange-wise, too.

I picked up some HD-DVD's at Target where they had been red tagged and placed on the clearance endcaps. $6-$4.34 each. They were stuck in with the clearance video games at a couple of stores I went to. Decent titles. Of course this is store by store and each store is different. Might be worth looking for if you are near Target. Hopefully some of you will score some.

JB7 04-28-08 10:25 AM

I am sure this was asked before, but I probably wasn't paying attention cause I wasn't planning on ordering anything. However now that I am, is there some Visa extra charge (converting) when you order from a place like ezyDVD?

I used a credit card funded Paypal payment for Into the Wild and there was no additional conversion charge. That worked out to less than $11 shipped and I was very happy with the purchase. I would buy again from EZdvd without hesitation.

Be aware that the price in US dollars will fluctuate from day to day as the AUD to USD conversion rates dance around.

Which HD DVD titles were you able to find clearanced out at Target? (Curious :-)

RichC2 04-28-08 04:56 PM

Woo, my $26 BBC Planet Earth set from PBS came in today.

Still pending, except Serenity is OOS. How long should I wait before pinging them by e-mail?

Has anyone gotten the star trek set so that you are able to confirm the region of the SD side?

DVDGamer 04-28-08 08:51 PM

I guess this thread has turned into a Canadian HD-DVD sale thread with nothing else going elswhere. Will just have to wait for Deep Discount semi-annual sale, I guess, to grab some discounts locally.

Trevor 04-28-08 09:05 PM

This is the age of the internet, everything is local!

Don't know what to tell you. I presume that as long as your pending order page shows the titles as "In stock now - Available to ship" that you'll have no problem... that typically indicates that they've got one with your name on it. When will they actually ship? Your guess is as good as mine.

kenbuzz 04-28-08 11:01 PM

BTW - BSG S1 HD is OOS again.

A 7 word sentence with 5 acronyms.... cool!

(The Harry Potters are ALL gone, too.)
(Heck, a LOT of stuff is gone... time for a mid-week update I guess)

kenbuzz 04-28-08 11:11 PM

Stuff is disappearing left and right, including an (apparently) small stock of BSG S1. Here's a midweek update (I'm not going to bother updating the exchange rate info - it's only been 48 hours since the last one).

Thank God.

Don't know about the rest of you military folks but I was in a local PX yesterday (Belvoir) and still saw quite a few HD titles (a lot more than when I was in Korea). Came home, checked the prices on Amazon for a few of them - pretty good comparably - but I'll verify today when I go by to pick them up.
