Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray
I think he's abominable, but his films are somewhat entertaining in that "this is so awful that it's strangely involving" way. Netflix seems to have most of the BU Blu-rays in HD streaming, so if I ever feel the urge to watch atrocious acting and absurd gore, which in fact I might, then that will be my route to Fulci. As I said, I really hope we can get a couple of American films to top off the year. I enjoy all of the Giallo stuff, but their 2011 slate has been a bit oversaturated with it, at least for me. I'm sure this has been a banner year for Argento/Giallo fans though.
I just got notice stating that it shipped today (along with my Army Of Shadows Criterion Blu I ordered when Amazon had it on sale). Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow or Thursday...

Admittedly, I agree from what I've seen that Fulci's not that great, especially compared to Bava or Argento. Mind you, I haven't seen some of the films that's considered at the top of his work (like The Beyond or Zombie; I plan on checking out BU's Blu-Ray when it's released, and while I can't really take advantage of the bonus DVD, I'm considering importing the Arrow Blu of Beyond), and films of his I have seen (such as The New York Ripper) have certainly been watchable. Admittedly, I'm a giallo and Argento fan, so I've been quite happy to see the releases of his that they've put out; I do hope to see Black Belly Of The Tarantula soon; that release looked wonderful on DVD, I could just imagine how well the Blu would look.
I can't speak for The Beyond either, as I have never seen it either.
But my first step into Fulci AFTER Zombie was City of the Living Dead and I hated it. Still do.

I'm fairly confident you'll like Zombie. That said, that film is the one which is completely unlike Fulci's other work. It's actually coherent and not full of pretentious dream sequences that just end up confusing the viewer.

I'm super excited for House by the Cemetary, it's been a favorite of mine since I watched an old bootleg DVD of it at my friends house in middle school.

I forgot that House was the one in which the boy's voice was dubbed by a woman (!) - it's all coming back now! I remember watching this with my friends years ago and everyone being in absolute hysterics every time his character spoke.

I changed my post to read 'woman' instead of 'girl' after watching the trailer. It's clearly an adult voice, which makes it all the more ridiculous.

Awesome cover for HBTC. Will certainly upgrade it.
I watched Deep Red earlier and as expected it looked incredible. Soundtrack was awesome too. And while it isn't loaded with features the stuff that was there was an entertaining viewing.

From Red Shirt Pictures:
A brief look at the interview studio we created for our HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY shoot at the Horrorhound Weekend Convention as well as some coverage of the convention floor.

I just finished watching this myself, and it's my favorite Argento so far. The set pieces are his most inventive, David Hemmings makes for a compelling lead, and the funky grooves of Goblin mesh well with the action. Here's my one question: does Hemmings' character wear the same outfit for the entire film?

^ I somehow missed the news that the Italian cut of the film, is entirely in Italian, I don't remember the Japanese laserdisc being this way... that is, subtitled - and ugh, yellow subtitles -
- the Goblin soundtrack in 6.1 - WOW!

The only problem I have with BU's DR is with the English audio options for the Italian cut. I like to watch the full cut and listen to Hemmings' performance. There's only one English audio option (5.1).

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray
The Anchor Bay DVD had the option that it would switch between the English audio to the Italian audio (and English subtitles) whenever a "deleted scene" was presented, is that not the case on the BU BD?
I'd also state that the "international cut" (the shorter version) is the better edit of the film. While it lacks the house of the screaming child subplot (which confused my wife when I played the shorter cut last week for her) that I feel is important to the plot, the rest of the "added" footage just slows the film down.

I actually watched the shorter cut this last time I watched it, I'm pretty sure it was the first time I've seen that cut. I don't think I like the film any less either way but the longer cut is my preferred version. I think the positives of it outweigh the negative of the pace being slowed a bit.
In other news, I'm just getting around to watching City of the Living Dead in full since buying it during its release week and it is even better then when I scanned through it. At this point I'm convinced BU can do no wrong.

I still side with AF's release of City of the Living Dead since it has two audio commentary tracks

i dig that cover better than the old one
