Ok getting this thread back on topic, it seems like the next big release week for BD is March 11 with Hitman, ID4, I Robot, No Country for Old Men, Dogma, Gattaca, Dan in Real Life, Sleuth and August Rush. What are you guys looking to purchase that week? I'm personally looking at Hitman, ID4, I Robot, NCFOM, and Dogma.

Out of that list...Dan in Real Life (blind buy) and maybe Dogma (I'll wait for a BOGO most likely). Hitman looks atrocious and I will never pay those prices for Fox titles. Some of those movies Ive never heard of (Gattaca, Sleuth, August Rush ?).

So for me...1 movie. Is that really "it" until March for Blu-ray? I could have sworn there were more movies coming out.

DthRdrX 01-26-08 01:27 PM

About F'N time we get I, Robot. Should look awesome.

Appleseed:EX comes out on March 11th as well.

I'm also interested in Sleuth. The first one is classic so I'm looking forward to the remake.

Definitely looking forward to ID4 & No Country for Old Men. I'll probably also get I Robot & Gattaca. As for the others, maybe in a later BOGO.

There are more movies coming out. February is going to be a great month with some flat out badass releases.

kefrank 01-26-08 01:46 PM

I'm looking forward to Gattaca and No Country, but I will probably wait for a sale price on both of them. The others I don't have any interest in at all.

Ditto...ill pass on the others.

I may rent Dan in Real Life.

Drexl 01-26-08 01:59 PM

I'll get No Country, Gattaca, and I, Robot. No Country is a day 1 purchase, but I may wait on sales for the others. It will probably depend on whether there's another BOGO or other big sale in the meantime. If there aren't any, I'll assume we won't be seeing them for a while and go ahead and get Gattaca that week.

I pretty much have a policy of not buying Fox catalog titles at "regular" prices, especially when extras are dropped, so I, Robot is a definite waiter.

dman988 01-26-08 02:06 PM

For all thinking about buying Dan in Real Life, I'd reccomend renting it first. It's not really a funny comedy like the trailers made it out to be. It isn't bad though.

I'll get NCFOM, Gattaca, and maybe Dogma if there are more features than the SE that I have. I don't know, have the specs come out for Dogma?

XavierMike 01-26-08 02:37 PM

I, Robot and ID4 for me.

Dane Marvin 01-26-08 02:43 PM

That is a HUGE week of BD releases considering what normally comes out HDM-wise in any given week. Out of those, No Country for Old Men is the no brainer. Along with Zodiac, I thought it was the best movie I saw this year. There Will Be Blood is very close though.

I think I will skip ID4 because the extras look to be lacking (no surprise since its Fox -- double dip down the road, anyone?). I will just rent it.

I will either rent or blind buy Dan in Real Life.

Mr. Cinema 01-26-08 02:49 PM

March will have some great titles. No Country for Old Men and ID4 are no brainers. But I'm looking forward to several February titles. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Crimson Tide, Wall Street, Gone Baby Gone, We Own the Night, In the Valley of Elah, Michael Clayton, Run Lola Run, 30 Days of Night.

Mr. Cinema 01-26-08 03:18 PM

Mutliple confirmations from AVS users that Circuit City stores are putting their HD DVD players on clearance. Supposedly, the A3 is marked down to $100 and the A30 at $149. Hard to tell if this is a regional thing or if it will be national. Here's a pic that one member took:

Out of these, Crimson Tide is the only one I've seen. You can bet I will be Netflixing all of the new releases, especially Jesse James and Gone Baby Gone. And I will be blind buying Michael Clayton. It just looks damn good. Other than that, February doesn't appear to be a big month for me.

------------

To change the topic back to sales figures (both players and media) momentarily, isn't it crazy how HDM is still such a ground-floor idea that we early adopters and our weekly purchases can really have an effect on these numbers? I looked at the Top 10 BD titles last week and noticed "300" is still on there. And I thought to myself, "Hey, I just bought a PS3 last week and ordered that from Amazon the same night. I added to that figure."

The fact that "300" is still in the top 10 (and fairly high up on the list) is a very good sign. I would probably attribute most of those sales to new Blu-ray player owners who realize that this is one of the flagship HD titles that you just gotta own. And I'm sure all Blu-ray enthusiasts can agree that one thing we need more of is people to adopt the format. I would be a little worried if the Top 10 was all dominated by new releases that came out within the last month.

Great Blu-Ray news.

Well, it's great Blu-ray news if CC plans on getting rid of them without plans to re-stock them...

It is great news for Blu-ray.

Do you own a Blu-ray player?

By the way, what is your fucking problem? You seem to be tracking my BD posts lately and always follow up with the same shit. The rolleyes routine.

Yup, and considerably more BD's than you do. Instead of questioning me personally, ask yourself why you didn't post that in the HD DVD news thread. I can't recall responding to any of your posts before, and I'm fairly certain I rarely (if ever) use any roll eyes smilies. Stop being so touchy.

Hopefully Best Buy follows up soon. And hopefully this accelerates Uni/Paramount's thought process.

ID4, I Robot and NCFOM for sure. Even though I should be patient with the Sony catalog titles and wait for a BOGO, I well definitely get Gattaca right away. I want Dogma, but that can wait for a BOGO. DIRL will be a rental.

I should wait on I Robot as well, but I've been wanting to see it again for a while.

EDIT: March will also have I Am Legend, Bonnie & Clyde and Enchanted. I expect IAL and Enchanted should do very well on BD.

The HD DVD side has received enough bad news lately. I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

By the way, what's with the mine's bigger than yours response? I have over 80 BDs. I wish I could buy more, but I have other things to pay for.

Yeah, you're the one who chimed in to defend all those people I have "upset?" because I stated a fact that there was a risk to take by entering into the format war. In that same post, you have this delusional idea that BD players will somehow add HD DVD playback later.

You called me out, implying that I am just some kind of HD DVD shill.

Regardless, there's a reason why have two separate news threads. As someone who has been in the HD subforum since its inception, I've seen the havoc that the dual-format threads caused. The only reason to post that info in this particular thread is to inspire either a circle jerk response or an HD DVD troll response. Is either particularly useful at this point?

Sorry for the eye roll.

bunkaroo 01-26-08 03:37 PM

Remember folks, it's about quality, not quantity. Who cares if you have 300 Blu-Ray's if you have Norbit and Delta Farce? :)

I actually have 2 HD DVD players and bought my A1 the first week it was released. There's no need to explain to me how things were before as I also have been involved in the HD forum since it began.

Those who only have HD DVD and are not interested in BD shouldn't be in this thread anyways. What I posted IS good news for Blu-ray.

Unfortunately, people who want to shit on BD come to this thread instead of posting in the HD-DVD thread where they belong. That's why there has been 5 parts to this one and only 2 for HD-DVD. And it looks like nothing has changed.
