Reccomended 32-37" HDTV?

I figure you guys know more about Hi-definition than I know about my mom, so I thought I'd ask you all what you would reccomend for a second, smaller than my 42" HDTV, that I'm going to get after my tax return. Keep in mind, I dont wanna spend more than $800. Any suggestions?

P.S. I saw a 32" hdtv at best buy today on sale of $469 It was a best buy brand called "Denon" I think. Is this set any good? Or is the price so low cause it's not a good set.

I am a HD novice as well, but have heard that the Vizios are pretty decent quality for the price. A 37" can be found for $750 or less.

You can find similar threads in the home theater gear forum.

I think I will be getting a 32 inch Toshiba Regza soon enough. In my opinion, Toshiba's electronics are excellent.

I just bought a (used) 30" Sony CRT for $300. And the picture quality blows away every LCD available. Also the set will be running long past the time these flat panels bite the dust.

Was it this one?

That's what I've had for the last 2 years. Granted it's only 30", but the picture quality is outstanding.

Yep. It is a great set if you have the space for it. The only better tv would have been a 30XS955 with a SFP tube, but those are pretty rare.

Just found another 30hs420 on craigslist for $275 including the stand and an HDTV OTA receiver. $25 less + a tuner. Just damn.

For 32" LCD, take a look at the Panasonic TC-32LX700 (the model name that ends in "700" - not in "70"). Unlike other brands of 32" LCD HDTVs, this is the top of the line for Panasonic's LCDs (for whatever reason, Panasonic doesn't make LCDs larger than this one - they only make Plasmas in larger sizes) so it has the 120Hz refresh rate that's rarely found in sets at this screen size (most other brands only offer 60Hz at this size).

i have a 37" Toshiba Regza in the bedroom and i really like it. my only gripes (and they are minor) are:

-- the built-in tuner does not have a channel guide (but my external HD tuner on another TV does)
-- being an LCD (even a very, very good one), the black levels still aren't quite on par with a CRT or a plasma

I bought a Toshiba Regza LCD TV, and based on my experience with Toshiba's customer support I have to recommend that people stay away from the brand. My TV has been broken since early December, and the (Toshiba-recommended!) service center has been sitting on their hands for almost two months while they wait for Toshiba to send them the parts needed to repair it. I'm about ready to get the BBB involved, but I'm giving Toshiba until the end of the month to make good on their warranty.

Unfortunately, I bought the TV over the Internet, so taking it back to the store isn't an option. If you do buy a Toshiba TV, make sure it's from a B&M store with a liberal return and exchange policy; if my experience is any indicator, you're sunk if you end up depending on Toshiba to get your TV working.

I have a 32" Vizio LCD and am happy with it. It was the one that fit in my budget and I had heard good things about Vizio so I went with it. Once I can afford a better one I was thinking about going with either Samsung or Sony.

I have the 32-inch Toshiba Regza, and I love it to death...for the price (got it for $600 on Black Friday, usually goes for about $700), you can't beat it.

There's also 3 (!) HDMI inputs. The only gripe I have is that there's no headphone jack, but that's the least of my problems.

I think the Regza usually goes for more than $700... It's currently $720 at Amazon, and even that is the cheapest one I can find online. That $600 price was a hell of a deal.

When playing full-frame games on the vizio are the bars on the sides black or gray?

I also have a 37" Vizio and sbolutely love it. I primarily toss a TiVoHD at it (using 720p Fixed output) and it sparkles in HD. My old gen 1 DVD player looks pretty darn good, as well as upconverted SD TV material.

If you consider the Vizio, look at getting it at Costco. Costco doubles the warranty on TVs so you would get a 2-year on the Vizios.

It's all personal opinion, but I think the Vizio looks better than a lot TVs that cost a ton more than the $759 I paid. And honestly, once you get a decent 720p LCD home, away from the bigger TVs, away from the harsh light of the store, and you do a little bit of tweaking on the settings, and then you toss good HD material at it, you will likely not care about other TVs.

There's a Toshiba 32" regza here for $599 CAD new, down $200 (although I've seen it for 9)...I'm tempted.
