Defective BR Disc - HP The Goblet of Fire
Well I only have about 20 Blu-Ray movies so far and experienced my first defective disc. I put HP Goblet into my PS3 and nothing, nada, zilch. No error messages, no acknowledge by the PS3 that there was even a movie in it. It is brand new and unscratched and my PS3 has the latest firmware. In the 200+ DVDs I've watched over the years I've never had that happen. Are defective discs more come in the HD arena? Now I'm feeling like I should open the 10 or so BR movies I have just purchased and put them in just to see if they will play before too much time runs out and I can't return them.

For more information, there's actually a thread on AVSforum about this exact problem relating to HP4.

Especially since I'm in exactly the same boat as the OP Jamers. I bought all five HP movies individually a couple weeks back with those $20 off 3 BR coupons from Best Buy. The other four work perfectly, but Goblet of Fire will NOT play in my PS3.. no error messages.. no nothing.. PS3 acts like I didn't put a disc in at all..
Yes, my firmware is updated to 2.10. No this disc is not an HD disc cuz my Toshiba A2 doesn't recogznize the disc either.. but at least it errors out. Yes, I tried taking it back to Best Buy. Replacement disc does exactly the same thing.
I'm glad someone else is having this problem too! Now, what to do about it?? I really don't want to have 4 Potter BR's and 1 Potter HD looking stupid on the shelf..

This one particular BD has been popping up a lot on various boards as being defective right out of the box. There must have been a bad batch or something that got out. Just return it until you get a good copy.

Hummm.. I wish I could remember if I exchanged the disc at the same Best Buy that I purchased from originally... hopefully I did, and that store in particular got a bad case of them or something.
I think I may try taking a drive to a location outside Phoenix and exchange it there.. see if that makes any difference.

Got HPGOB from Amazon and it wouldn't play on the PS3. Returned it for a new one which also wouldn't play. Called Warner Home Video customer service. They are aware of the problem, but haven't decided on a solution. The rep took my info and told me not to exchange it again, but to wait and they'd get back to me. However, if I don't hear from them soon, I'm going to try again with Amazon.

I have the standard release HP GOF Blu-ray (bought from Amazon) as well as the HD DVD release of HP Years 1.5.
The BD plays fine... but it has the wrong cover-art and uses the cover-design for the box set - weird.

What does the artwork look like on your disc? Mine is light brown, and unlike the other films, the cover art is not on the disc.

Well the saga continues...
First copy from BB... PS3 didn't recognize at all..
Second copy from BB... PS3 again didn't recognize at all..
Took it back for my third copy today from a Best Buy outside of town.. This one took longer than the norm to load up, but it did load. Ahhhh I thought, finally one that works! So I'm watching it.. and about midway through, during the dance ball sequence.. the sound dropped out once.. then a second time.. then the disc began freezing up.. first a short freeze.. then a longer one.. and they kept getting longer. No artifacting at all, but the video would rush to catch up before resuming with audio. Similar to watching a highly encoded avi on a PC that's short on memory.
This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this on my PS3..
Mine's a 60 gig PS3 with the 2.10 firmware..
I guess I'll be going back to BB for round 4.. or hope the next firmware update knocks this kink out.

I got my copy from Amazon during the BOGO sale. I put mine in my PS3 and it seemed to play fine. I skipped through some chapters and all seemed to be ok.
I'm using the 80GB PS3 with the 2.10 firmware. My disc is also a light brown design and doesn't have the cover artwork on the disc like the first three films.
Here's what my disc looks like in case some are different.
