Also, the Lightning deal is Smallville: Season 6 [Blu-ray] $37.99

The Amazon Visa coupon MAYDVDS5 lowers that to $32.99 for those who have an Amazon Visa card. The coupon is $5 off $50 but since the regular price of the set is $55.95 it qualifies and both the lightning deal discount and the coupon stack.

FWIW

Damn! Does anyone know if Wal-Mart has a policy where they honor deals if you made a purchase within the last 90 days? I bought a PS3 at Wal-Mart within the last month, and I certainly didn't get a $100 gift card.

I don't know. I have the receipt; I just didn't know whether Wal-Mart would give me a gift card or not since I had already purchased it previously.

He doesn't need to do a receiptless return. Buy a new PS3 to get the gift card and return the new, sealed PS3 that you just bought with the receipt from a month ago.

Hmm, that's a good idea. Know if that would affect the extended warranty I bought?

It just pisses me off because I have missed out on all the special deals each time I have gone HD. A couple of months after I bought the 360 add-on, they dropped the space and added the 5 free movies deal. And now that I have gone Blu, I bought too late to qualify for any 5 free movie deal and I bought about a month after I could have received a $100 gift card.

Did Season 5 ever come out on BD or is that still HD DVD exclusive? I want to pick up all the Smallvilles but I'd have to have DVD/HD/BD mixed.

Even $37.99 is a bit much considering older seasons are typically $14.99-$19.99 on sale. Oh well. Good deal for those that need it though.

I picked it up. I feel 30 would have been a more appropriate price, but I didn't feel like waiting another 6-12 months for it to drop for 8 bucks. I finished season 5 a while ago and have been waiting to watch season 6.

Per blu-ray.com:

Wal-Mart has revealed that any consumer who purchases a Blu-ray Disc player between June 8th and 14th will receive a free $100 gift card. In addition to the Sony BDP-S300 ($388), which thay have been selling for some time now, they have added the Magnavox NB500MG9 ($298) as well as Blu-ray players from Samsung and Panasonic..

I believe the early word was PS3 only, but now it includes all of their players. That Magnavox is tempting as a backup unit. I believe the insides are Panasonic and Sony parts.

Out of the standalone players, the Panasonic is the highest rated. It's also the most expensive. Walmart pricing: Panasonic $448, Samsung $348.

I have the Panasonic and it is a very solid, reliable player. The new Samsung has been getting good ratings. But for a bargain, the Magnavox is probably a safe choice. I know it uses a Panasonic chipset, but may also have Sony parts. It's also profile 1.1 and bitstreams lossless audio. I may get it as a backup unit.

Do y'all think the DDD 20% sale will be the best prices for HD-DVD's in the present/near future? there's still a few for $12 (9.60 after sale), that I want.

This is the first Amazon deal that I decided to purchase. The Robocop Blu-ray should be a big step up from my Criterion edition.

In PQ and AQ yes, but in the Special Features department...no. Its bare bones.

I purchased mine for $13 at Fry's several months ago.

^^^ Yeah, the special features thing sucks! I can't believe they didn't port over the SD features from the new edition. And while I like the movie a great deal, don't think I like it enough to buy it a third time. And I would rather own the thing on Blu than SD.
