Just a shade under $400 for an A3 and 24 discs. A lot of that was GC's from Christmas. I would say around $250 was out of pocket.

I feel just the opposite -- many more titles on Blu-Ray which interest me. HOWEVER, HD-DVD has a couple of film exclusives I adore which in itself is worth having the A-3. I do also have a PS3, though.

I've spent around $1000 for my A2, 44 HD-DVDs, and two preorders. Amazingly, they all still work on my A2 and I'm pretty sure they'll still work after Blu-ray wins the format war.

I don't mind the money spent so far, about 350-400 total, and I would like to buy many more of the HD discs, frankly...especially if the discs drop in price.

My concern, though, is having to buy another player if this one conks out. This is the only thing that may keep me from buying more HD discs.

I spent about $350cdn for my A2 player in August and another $500 or so on movies. I went neutral 2 months later so this new announcement is not that big a deal for me.

Even if I never buy another hd-dvd I'm still happy I got my player since some of the movies I did purchase like Hot Fuzz, Transformers, The Bourne Trilogy, Casino and The Adventures of Robin Hood were hd exclusive anyway

I was close to buying the HD DVD add on at Christmas for Matrix, Batman and V for Vendetta, but I don't need to now.

Spent $175 on the Xbox 360 add-on which I use in the home theater and $175 on the HD-A3 which I use in the bedroom. 16 free HD-DVD movies. The only HD-DVD movies that I bought were Bourne Supremacy & Transformers when it was BOGO, so I'm less than $400 total.

Ditto.

I wasn't anti-HD-DVD or anything. I honestly can't say I've followed the format war close enough to even have an informed opinion. We got a PS3 for Christmas, so now have Blu-Ray. If I had made it to WalMart before they ran out of the $100 player, I would have HD-DVD already. I got several Best Buy gift cards for Christmas, and had considered becoming dual-format using those cards.

Looks like maybe I'll hold out a little longer before making any investment...

Easily in the $2k and above set. Got the A1 for $500, A2 for $200 and roughly 75-85 HD titles.

Less than $300 - A3 (all Bourne movies were picked up with the player purchase - one included in the box), 300, the 5 free titles along with this must have software: King Kong, Heroes Season 1, Batman Begins.

I gave my A3 to my brother, who wanted the 2nd player for his loft, and have given him most of my software (sans Heroes S1, which I plan to give to another member of the family that went with HD DVD).

What's funny is that they knew I was going Blu exclusively and called me daily for an update (read: when can I get my free swag )

As I got my player as a Christmas present, I would say only about $100 for the 8 extra discs I have bought beyond the free 10. If I did not already have a decent upconverting DVD player (that was also bought last year) the news would not have bothered me as much.

$325

About 250 (including tax) for the player (but I needed an upconverting DVD player and it's much better than other ones I've tried. $72 (including tax) for the 9 movies I have (5 free, Blade Runner 5 disk, 3 more as part of various BOGO along with the non HD 2 disk Die Hard). Since I really wanted the 5 disk Blade Runner I would've ended up buying the briefcase version and gotten a bunch of junk I didn't want, so I came out pretty well, although I'll be disappointed when my A2 eventually dies if I can't watch my HD movies.

I've spent alot but not as much as looking at my collection would make you believe. I got in on alot of the B1G1 and B2G1 deals on amazon. I do wish I hadnt bought as many titles on HD DVD as I did though. I might have limited my HD DVD titles to Universal titles had I to do it again. In any event, Dawn of the Dead 2004 and King Kong wont be on Blu-ray for a long time though.

Why the frown? I'd feel damn happy to know someone who'd actually buy me an import HD DVD, of all obscure things. OK, maybe a tiny frown for the Top Gun, but otherwise I think that's awesome!

No moping here - I've spent probably $800 or so, but I've gotten some free, many with credit from trading in SD DVDs, and even cashed in on some super deals.

Plus at any time I can watch hi-def:
Batman Begins
12 Monkeys
Big Lebowski
Casablanca
Army of Darkness
Children of Men
Forbidden Planet
Dune
Heroes
Pride and Prejudice
The Thing
Transformers
King Kong
more,more,more

I originally bought my HD DVD for Batman Begins and The Thing, but they'll pry it all from my cold dead hands.

Paid $450 for my A1 from Costco and $100 for my A2 from Wallyworld.
Returned the A1 for a full refund thanks to Costco's liberal return policy.
I think I'm still within the return window for my A2 but it rocks for $100 so it stays.

So a net $100 for the hardware.

As for software, maybe $300ish. I only (re)buy my all-time favorite titles on HDM.

I just have the 360 HD-DVD player (bought for around $160 I think a tthe time)

I only bought three movies (all for $10-$15)

The rest are rebates movies, which I can recoup some of my costs probably.

About 375 dollars on my player and somewhere between 400 and 500 dollars on the software. I bought my player just last September.

$250 for my player, and no money on discs. I have 11 HD-DVDs and all of them I either got free with the player or bought using gift cards. I have to yet to send in for the 5 free-by-mail as well. I don't feel too bad, but it still stings.

Besides the fact that his system is totally badass and he has a great SD collection, I WOULD DEFINITELY HATE TO BE HIM RIGHT NOW.
