Probably around $500-$700, and that includes two A-2s ($180 and $99), the complete Band of Brothers set at around $150 imported, and about 25 more HD-DVDs (not counting the free ones that I still haven't received). I have about 7-10 that are unopened that I am not sure whether I will keep them or return them/sell them.
Although I'd prefer to not be in this position, overall, I didn't drop a ton of money, I have 2 good HD-DVD and upconverting players, and a nice collection of good movies in HD. Not the end of the world. Once things settle down and BD players drop in price, I'll jump in with no hard feelings. But I'm in no rush to jump on the BD bandwagon.

XA2. Around 77 HD DVD movies. I figure around $1200. However, since I'm NOT going to sell these HD DVD movies just to get Blu-ray versions, it only leaves me with the XA2 which I like very much. If anything, it's a high-end SD DVD player with an outdated HD DVD bonus.

$0 doesn't really count. Why are you even posting here.

$200 for the 360 add-on and I bought 4 used HD-DVDs. So about $250-260.
I won't be buying anymore HD-DVD or Blu-Ray in the foreseeable future as it's just to expensive right now. I perused Wal-Mart's HD area the other day and was quite shocked to see pretty much everything at or over $30. $30 for one bare bones movie! Sorry, but fuck that. At those prices they can keep them for all I care.

$500 on launch day
$200 for 360 hd
$100 each on an a3 and 2
ouch
and then over 100 movies in hd
siggggh
the whole ordeal makes me sad. even if I picked blu ray exclusively I would have missed out on Transformers, Heroes, the Matrix, Disturbia, Nip/Tuck (I think).

I added it up for giggles.
$500 for launch player
$200 for A3
$700 for around 70 movies at $10 a disc averaging in the deals and free ones.
Much cheaper than I thought to venture into HD DVD. I will get back some of this cost as I sell off HD DVDs to buy BD discs, but even the stuff I keep will be pretty affordable overall.
Have to thank Toshiba for that.

I probably spent about $400. I bought the player when it was $250, but just couldn't bring myself to keep buying movies when I knew it might die. I have about 20 titles, but all of them except 5 were gifts or mail in freebies.
I ordered the HD Blade Runer briefcase, but am returning it to Amazon for Blu in light of the news.

I've spent many thousands of dollars on the format. I can't even calculate how much it is, because I've been buying titles since September of 2006. Only lately have I stopped as I've been able to review the titles I wanted.

Purchased my first 3 hd-dvds from Amazon.com in Sept 06 to get the 10% off offer.
Purchased the A2 when it first hit the islands at BB in Dec 06 for $425 + 2 free and 5 free mail in rebate.
Purchased a 2nd A2 from Walmart for $99 + tax and 5 free mail in rebate
Amazon.com Marketplace = 87 titles for $1273.00
Amazon.com 10% off = 46 titles for $537.76
CC 1/2 price glitch = 4 titles for $55.00
DD 20% = 14 titles for $215.03
BB (B1g1f & B3g2F) = 9 titles for $125.00
Not counting the freebies I have spent $2090 on 160 titles for a average of $13.06 each. So I am a happy camper. Of course I am still over $2500 including the 2 players.
I also the same person who had over 500 laserdiscs and sold them all before the first dvd ever came out. But I will not be doing that with my hd-dvd collection. I will pick up some non WB titles if the price is right and also maybe another player.
I wish my 500 laserdiscs had cost me $13 each.

I've spent $329.70 at this point:
Toshiba A3 Player + 10 "free" HD-DVD titles for $199.00
And then 10 more HD-DVD titles for $130.70 total (a $13.70 per title average, thanks to B1G1 and B2G1 sales)
Personally, I love the A3 player's upconverting ability (the main reason I bought it) and given that my original DVD player (a Panasonic A-310) that I bought back in 1998 still works (though now retired to the bedroom), I expect to continue enjoy using my A3 player for a number of years to come. And when and if it dies, I expect by then some sort of multi-format player that has the ability to play HD-DVD discs will be available to buy from some manufacturer for a low price, and I'll continue to enjoy whatever HD-DVD library I still have then (which I actually expect to grow a bit if there are great sales) and continuing into the future.
In other words, I'm not all that concerned by the Warner announcement. (I actually figured either Blu-ray or Combo-Players would eventually "win" the format war anyway before I even bought the A3.)

$500 (A1 Launch)
With all the deals on HD-DVD, I don't quite know what I spent on 148 HD-DVDs (52 are WB).
Hopefully, I can pickup a cheap XA2 before year-end.

Funny how people don't mind paying $60 for games for a system they know won't be supported forever, but not $20 for a film. All of a sudden it's 'dead' and they think they can't use it anymore...
Personally i see no difference between 'investing' in DVD, HD-DVD, or BD.
Nothing will last forever, including yourself.

I've been a gamer for years and still don't understand the idea of dumping $60 on software during its initial release.
Thankfully, I've become a more selective buyer over the years and controlled by spending.
