That would be nice, but I really think they just want to sell more PS3s more than anything else.

Yeah. I am from the Philly area. I just love that from Major League though. Always makes me laugh.

Not pertaining to the announcement or anything. But I absolutely despise how Warner's discs automatically start playing when you pop them in.

I have comcast and they feel it is best that I don't have HDNet. Thanks comcast!

As bad as the starting menu's are for Uni discs, I agree regarding WB immediate start.

Agreed. I don't think Pro-B has been out of line in this thread, but several people on both sides discussing his comments (and the comments about his comments) have been. Ease up. You'd think that an announcement like this, with what it seems to indicate about the future of HDM, would make things less tense here, not more.

Until I see WB themselves say something, it is not fact. I have seen insiders with an agenda of their own.

Edit to add: WB did say they did not take money.

During all the Blu-Ray BOGO's, where were the HD DVD BOGO's? They also didn't have near the ad campaign Blu-Ray has had.

I don't know if Toshiba refused to spend more money promoting their format or simply couldn't afford to, but either way, to me, it always seemed like they were a day late and a dollar short. I firmly believe they could have won if they had managed their campaign better.
I think HD DVD really blew it about a year ago today by not doing a damn thing starting at CES & throughout the 1st Q 2007. Pre-CES (and also admittedly pre-BD50's becoming more or less standard), I was a dual supporter, but definitely more red than blue. I bought all non-exclusives in HD DVD. But for me, I was very disappointed at HD DVD's CES announcements compared to BD. While it's true most of Fox's were BS, that's still when I started moving towards Blu, and I never really looked back.

I know what that feels like ... as soon as comcast took over in my area they dropped HDNet. Still not too happy about it.

I was just thinking about this. Will there be a 4th gen hd-dvd player or will Toshiba begin the process of making dual format players?

+1,000,000

Isn't it funny how some of the studios are reverting to their early DVD behavior?

Fox with higher prices and bare bones discs, WB with autostart....

I just watched all the Harry Potter discs, and on every one I had to pause at the WB logo, select the lossless audio, then start again. Such a PITA.

Definitely agree here. It was at that time I changed my stance from neutral leaning red to neutral leaning blue, since it appeared Uni had all but abandoned the format.

I just read the first page and last page of this thread but is it now safe to assume it's safe to buy a Blu-Ray player now? I'm actually one of the people that have sat on the sidelines waiting for one format to emerge.

these studios should just to get a little piece of the pie.

I say everyone should keep throwing money by the truckloads to everyone else until there is no more money to throw. then we as consumers should just say "meh, I think I'm sticking with DVD". that'll show 'em.

From what ive heard, Toshiba had no plans for a Gen4 player to be shown at CES. They will continue with the A30 only and discontinue to A3 and A35.

I imagine at this point...They may make a Dual Player and hopefully it will be sub $500. I'll buy one as Toshiba is pretty fast on firmware updates unlike the current Dual Format CE's Samsung and LG.

I also hate that WB discs go straight to the movie. They don't even really have a proper title screen.

Yeah, a dual-format Toshiba would make it into my home.

Me too. I'd pay upwards of $300 for that, though I suspect it'd be more than that, right?

I'm hoping for a killer XB1 (get it? ) Combo player to replace my XA1 HD-DVD player in the future.

$499 will be the next "Dual" price IMO. Once Blu-ray players hit $299 everyday (for a 1.1/2.0) an additional $200 or so for HD DVD would be pretty good. I'd gladly pick one up.

I love my XA1. Its not going anywhere. The remote and the door are awesome little 80's like features. I will hold on to this player forever.

If Toshiba makes a Blu version of their X flagship line, I would be pleased.

I hope not. The cheaper, the better for the consumer.
