Can I play region 3 DVDs on my HD DVD player?

I have a Toshiba HD A2 player. I know HD dvds are region free but, will my player play a region 3 regular dvd? I really want the region 3 Army of Darkness dvd.

No, region coding for DVDs is still enforced. I believe it also won't play PAL discs, region-coded or not.

some region 3 SD-dvd's are considered region 0 and do play on USA dvd players.
I can't think of 1 at the moment. I will try and find 1 of mine and try it in my Toshiba A3..

This thread must come up at least once a week here. Don't we have a FAQ?

The FAQ part hasn't been updated in almost 2 years, and it's just become a 10 page thread of random info.

I have a Toshiba HD-XE1 and used this to make it multi-region for standard discs:

Apparently it also works for the E1 and EP10. I have a UK machine though...
