Why no decent blu-ray players?

Any reason you want analog outs or what you use them for? Purely a curiosity question.
My 1999 Yamaha receiver has the inputs, but I only ever used them for my SACD player's six analog outs because that was the only way to get six channel SACD sound reproduced at the time. Now that the PS3 can process my SACDs with 6-channel digital via the optical connection, I personally have no need for the analog anymore. I remember people also using them if their receiver could not process DD or DTS - older DVD players had the analog outs on them for that purpose.

The original post of this thread looked like a shill thread started by a HD DVD fanboy. If anything Blu-ray has had the more stable players and hardware than HD DVD. Or do I have to provide links for the various combo issues, player lockups, etc. experienced by HD DVD owners since the format's inception.

Understood, but I guess other than the bandwidth being reduced possibly, it still allows me to use one device for nearly all of my media. That was the point I was trying to make. Also, it didn't do SACD for me at all before and now it can, thanks to a firmware patch that's free.

But when you are serious about lossless audio, the downmixed audio from the PS3's optical output just isn't "enough". This is why people desire 5.1 analog outputs on their BD player if they don't have the money to replace their current receiver with analog audio inputs with a receiver with HDMI inputs to handle the audio from the BD players. Had Sony put the 5.1/7.1 analog audio outputs on their PS3s, they would have cleaned up the BD player market as most of the BD players from other manufacturers do have quirks that require firmware updates, depending on the latest new BD release.

I don't believe it will do DTS Master yet, but hopefully in a future firmware?
I'll admit up front I've only partially researched this until I get my Onkyo 705 receiver, so I could be wrong.
Edit: Or I could be not understanding your complaint - apologies if I am.

I take back my post's title. There is a decent blu-ray player: the ps3. It's so nice to be able to plug in a product and have it work. This thing is sweet and puts the panny to shame. Love the wireless. All I had to do was tell it to update and it did all the work for me through my wireless. Thanks Rocky for the suggestion. The menus are way better and the player is much faster. I'm impressed and pleased!
Happy Holidays All!!! Remember, don't drink and drive!!

No prob m0vi3fan! Enjoy the PS3 and have a happy holiday! Let us know what Blu-Ray you watch first! Don't forget your free Blu-Rays!
One last thing - make sure your settings are correct for your display and audio. For your regular DVDs it will upscale them to 1080p but you have to enable it through the settings menu.
