It might also anger a few people, but if it truly IS the next generation, then at some point the studios need to treat it as such.. I remember the day when I saw advertising that went "xxx now on DVD!.. (pause) and also available on VHS". It really sent a powerful message. at least in my opinion. and please ensure that ALL supplements from any SD version is included in the high def one, shall we? I'm sure the news would get worse when you say not only can you not buy the $15 dvd version you are accustomed to doing, but we want you to buy a $400 high-def player to watch the movie, which now costs $30. |

The kicker is the studio is New Line with their release of Pan's Labyrinth who's been neutral from the get go. What a whack job this guy is! rotfl |

I know it makes for interesting debate, but for me it's just personal, I'm tired of the spin. Yet I keep reading all about it.....

this format war simply has no precedent in the relatively young home video market. not even VHS vs. BETA is all that comparable. we all want to be armchair market analysts, but none of us really know what is feasible and what isn't. |
Actually that was kind of my point. The only format war I remember was the Beta vs. VHS war, and ultimately there was a winner in that one. Hence my earlier posting about being tired of it all. I'll stay as interested as anyone else - and I am not any kind of authority on it - i'm just the average consumer waiting to see what body (or bodies) float down the river.

Profile 1.1 for PS3 coming tomorrow!

VHS/Beta was different because that was the first mass home video product. Right now there is a very good video format out there its called DVD..with a massive installed base.
So I don't think the lessons of VHS/Beta really apply here...IMHO |

I'm sure it's not practical, but it would be nice for studios to release HD movies the Friday before the Tuesday of release.

Wasn't the latest rumor about dts-hd ma that we would get it in January?

Good news about 1.1 for the PS3. I'd love to check out some of Saw IV's stuff.
