Because "have an ad placed in (enter store here)" costs the studio money. I believe it's even more if we're talking about a event themed display like we usually see around Father's Day.

And for the record, I will nto upgrade Master and Commander unless it has all the SD extras or the BD gets really cheap. The SE SD already has great picture and sound and I love the packaging. If it was a barebones BD I would dump the first SD disc and make my own SE eventually if the BD was shown to be a big improvement in PQ.

Agreed. Fox blows. They would have blown if they supported HD DVD. It doesn't matter the format, so no need for the brigade to rush in. Fox should take a few lessons from Disney.

Be like me. Refuse to buy extra less Fox releases for $27.99.

 So far I have only bought them used B2G2 free at EB. That is the only time they have any value to me. I'm not paying more than $20 for any movie so Fox's stuff is pretty much off my radar for new discs.

While Fox does slack on extras, their PQ and AQ is pretty amazing on catalog releases.

bunkaroo 01-16-08 10:26 PM

Ah I see it's time for the weekly Fox sucks barrage!

I'll get one in....FOX SUCKS!!!!1!11!!

I've liked what I've seen from them for the most part, but Edward Scissorhands was a disappointment.

The thing that I don't like about Fox is how they delay titles, but they don't improve them during the extra time. That M&C disc is probably going to turn out to be no better than it would have been had they released it last fall. At least when Disney delayed Cars and The Rock they were worth the wait.

I made it 15 minutes into BROKEN ARROW before I had to shut it off due to picture quality.

It's been that way with the other Fox titles I've peeked at. They seems to be the worst out there.

If they didn't continue to delay/cancel titles for no reason, and if they get released its bare bones and high prices...what do they expect? The same could be said if Paramount, Universal, Sony, WB etc did these tactics.

Brian,

Every single disc Fox have put on the market since the Paramount payoff has been of exceptionally high quality. Broken Arrow, Entrapment, etc., all disappointing discs, were released prior to it.

Well that's good to know. I'm still getting my feet wet with this stuff, and a crappy looking BROKEN ARROW make Brian sad.

Keep in mind 28 Days Later looks like crap. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Well to be fair it looks as good as it can. If you have it on DVD don't upgrade, but if you don't own the movie (I didn't) and you can get a decent price on it the BD version looks as good as it ever will and actually has some decent extras.

Yep! The advantage of early adoption - crappy looking barebones with cringe inducing MSRP. Perfect incentive for people to go out and buy a 1.0 Blu Ray player that will be "technically impaired" for all the great titles that are supposedly coming out now - oh thats right - Fox is going to be releasing more of these crappy transfers out - including some big catalog titles including Predator. Way to go FOX!!!!! Who loves you baby!!!!!

Yeah, especially since no money changed hands to get Warner to go BD -rolleyes-.

Interesting that people are quick to point out anything that resembles a bash of HD-DVD while the blatent bashing of Blu-ray is almost always ignored.

blu-ray.com has set up a special insiders forum where each of them gets their own thread. There are 5-6 over there now. Some good questions asked with some interesting answers.

The same can be said for Paramount's releases since the Warner payoff, too.

What blatant bashing? Seriously, it's been a Blu lovefest here for last couple weeks.

Plus Pro-B's posts always have a certain "tone" to them, so it's kind of expected to be bashed, always has to insert jabs, etc;. In particular that last comment, instead of stating "Fox releases have been great since so and so's release" (which is false, but regardless) he/she had to do it with a backhanded comment toward HD. Was this at all necessary?

But no matter, I'm sure posting habits from both sides will eventually mature a bit.

I read them all last night. Good information. I believe one of them let slip out that there were some heavy discussions going on behind the scenes, but didn't get into specifics. And it sounds like Best Buy will be the first to phase out HD DVD and concentrate solely on BD.

I like Penton-Man & Maxpower the best, and it's good to see Bill Hunt there as well. Even though he hasn't showed up yet, I'm surprised to also see Robert Harris added there... wonder if he's bolting HTF?
