I saw The Jack Ryan set today (and slight Hitchcock rambling)

The Jack Ryan Set is recalled right? I saw 2 copies at Wal Mart for 59.96 each. I tried to buy it and the computer wouldnt let the Wal Mart worker sell it to me. I didn't make a big deal of it since I am not that into the movies I just thought someone here might want it. I was a little more irked when they wouldn't sell the HD Sopranos set to me for 64.99 when the HDs and Blu Rays were mixed in with the Standard and all had shelf tags for that amount. But again I didn't make a big thing of it.

Off topic rant ignore but I have to type . . . But I am supremely irked because the Angelika in Plano had a showing of The Birds tonight that we went to watch. It looked like it was projected from a DVD. Looked terrible. Not only that but the audience was noisy with each other and cell phones and kids were throwing candy. Where are my Hitchcock HDs Universal!!?!?!

As far as the JRC I have heard similar reports on a few different boards. Even if people do find it they cant buy it since the computer system wont let them scan it. You may get local somewhere locally though (M&P shop).

I havent heard anything though as far as Hitchcock in HD though. I know his films are wanted, just havent heard any news on them.

You'd think that at least something like Psycho or Vertigo would be released by now.

Regarding Hitchcock, I believe Psycho and The Birds were on one of those early HD DVD lists that was released last year as probable titles to hit the format.

Both of these titles were supposed to receive the Legacy Series banner on dvd this year, but looks like those plans were scrapped.

My local Borders had 2 copies of the Jack Ryan Collection in store yesterday, but marked at the full $99.99 I didn't even try to purchase them. I'll just wait for Paramount to reissue the set (or preferably sell the movies individually, as I have no desire to pay for Sum or All Fears).

Good 'ole Borders. If it's in a box, it's full list.

Might not be terrible if someone has a 30% coupon, but otherwise that price blows.

Most of the existing Hitchcock transfers from Universal, while fine for SD-dvd, aren't up to snuff for HD. Though I think WB's North By Northwest should be ready for an HD transfer.

According to the best info I have right now, MBoyd, the only difference between the set you tried to pick up and the set that is going to be released is the art work. In other words, Paramount is just fixing the box covers and slip case to remove any reference to extras. The discs that will be released in the future are still the same bare bones ones that got sent to us reviewers as screeners.

Hopefully, they'll lower the MSRP for the set, but I wouldn't count on it.

Well I really doubt that, Universal did release a box set in 2005 with supposedly new remastering and it seems likely they have HD versions sitting around somewhere.Although the quality issues have been debated - personally I did not pick up the Box Set.

That's what I thought, as well, but the boxset I looked at yesterday didn't appear to mention any features or call them "special" editions in any way...

I don't think there are any current 30% off coupons for Borders. The best I can find online is 20%.

Only the inside boxes mentioned the extras, but the outside boxes had "Special Collector's Edition" written on it in various locations...Paramount wanted to correct that too.

Hey cool, those are some NICE townhomes there. Is that what you have? I looked at one once. Love the area. I'd consider it, if I didn't want to be in Austin someday. For now I live right at the Plano/Richardson border by 75.

We should have a DVD talk get together. Hit Taco Diner and see a movie. Believe me though you didnt miss anything with the Hitchcock showings. Sad Sad Sad . . . Thankfully the Inwood will have Blade Runner in 35mm!!!!

Whaddya know - here's a 30% coupon for the next two days:

If you want Jack Ryan and can't find it at Walmart and can find it at Borders, this should help.

I saw it at Future Shop the other day. I thought it was recalled?
