I think Michael that you need to switch the two. I think it will come with Wi-Fi but not the rumble. In the original press release they said the new rumble controller will be available when they sell the new 40 GB in either black or white but not that it will be packed in with the console. They could change there mind though, but it seems that if you want rumble in any country you are going to buy it separately from the console.

Sony doesn't make any money making older games work on the PS3. Infact it costs them money. They want you to buy new games and more importantly Blu-Ray.

They ought to pack in the whole Spidey trilogy or Casino Royale. I don't think there's going to be too many copies of Spidey 1 on eBay and if there are there's going to be a lot more people who bought the PS3 with Spidey 3 who want it.

They shot themselves in the foot thinking PS3s would fly off the shelves no matter the cost based on their four letter name alone. Now they are dumping everything conceivable out of the console to save money and to even get to a point where they can compete with the 360 and Wii.

I would actually consider buying it if I could replace my PS2 also. $400 for a BR player and playing a few PS3 games, along with just switching out one of my consoles is tempting.

This being said, today VideoBusiness has precisely the same read on Eklund's statement and points to exactly the same firmware upgrade: profile 1.1 compatibility. I find it difficult to believe that I, the editors at VideoBusiness, and a cohort of other tech-publishers read Eklund's statement to reveal 1.1 upgrade (simply because there is no other interactive feature that could be added to PS3 current functionality) yet you read it differently. I'm still working my way through Kingdom Hearts 1/2 and God of War. I can't believe they're going to release a non BC compatible PS3 after all the shit they talked pre-launch about the 360.
Then again this is the same company that said rumble was a last gen feature and are now going to offer up a nice rumble controller a year later for $60+.

European 40 GB PS3 399€:
1 sixaxis pad
2 USB ports
Ethernet/Wifi
Bluetooth
PS1 backward compatibility
No Memory Card port
No PS2 backward compatibility
This console seems to be more silent than the 60 GB version, many people said the fan stay at level 1 speed.

It's Official: $399 PlayStation 3 to Hit US
As widely expected, Sony has announced it will unleash a new $399 40GB PlayStation 3 for the US, setting a new low-price record for a Blu-ray playback device.
The move follows similar announcements by Sony in Japan and Europe over the last few weeks.
Although the PS3 is by far the best-selling high-def playback device on the market with 1.75 million units sold since its launch last November, those sales numbers pale in comparison to lower priced consoles from Microsoft and Nintendo.
The manufacturer is clearly hoping the lower price point will entice holiday shoppers to add the console to their Christmas lists. At $399, the PS3 is now within $50 of Microsoft's entry-level Xbox 360, and $100 of Nintendo's Wii.
Needless to say, a surge in PS3 sales could only help the Sony-backed Blu-ray format in its battle for high-def supremacy against rival format HD DVD. Even at current sales levels, the console has been widely attributed with propelling the Blu-ray format's disc sales turnaround over the last ten months.
The 40GB PS3 is expected to hit stores late this month, bundled with a Blu-ray copy of Sony's blockbuster 'Spider-Man 3' in the box.

Excellent news! I don't care about HD vs. BD, but the more HD players that get into houses, the better for us supporters in terms of high profile releases.
I do expect a counter by the HD camp. Maybe the A2 will hit $199 MSRP?

Prices keep dropping on BD, and i'll buy another BD device and put that in the bedroom next to my A1.

Not a bad price, but too bad PS2 compatibility is taken out. I wonder if that will even be mentioned on the box, or how many customers will be burned.

I will not buy a player that I cannot control with my Harmony. The Ps3 works on bluetooth, so therefore no go. I know there is a workaround by buying a third party IR remote for the PS3, but I'm not dropping another $20 for a remote ..so there you go..plus the IR remotes can't power on the PS3 due the fact it requires a USB IR receiver.
