Good luck with that, because that will almost assuredly never happen.

I don't think Universal will be releasing Cat People or Seed of Chucky any time soon. It might be a few years...regardless, lets drop this discussion here in the New Release Announcements thread please.

PopcornTreeCt 02-21-08 01:07 AM

Should we have separate threads for individual releases like in the DVD Talk forum?

I think releases like Sweeney Todd, Juno and There Will Be Blood perhaps deserve their own threads. Yay or nay?

Gizmo 02-21-08 01:09 AM

I don't see why we don't anyway, at least for Day and Date releases. Catalog titles should/could be kept in here unless its huge (Jaws, Indiana Jones etc). Or, maybe we can just do a new thread for each title? At least we could discuss the titles up to release and after...like in the DVD Forum.

Mods?

I have no problem with individual threads for day/date and big catalogue titles, with a majority of catalogue/special interest titles kept in here.

Atonement on HD DVD March 18. Wonder how long Universal will continue to release these puppies.

Also, it's a combo, which is sure to drive market penetration of HD DVD players even further and help Toshiba end this war once and for all!

Based on today's WENN news:

UNIVERSAL CONFIRMS IT WILL SWITCH TO BLU-RAY

"Only hours after Toshiba tossed in the towel in its battle with Sony over consumer high-definition video systems, Universal announced that it will begin releasing both new and catalog titles in the Blu-ray format.

"Universal and Paramount/DreamWorks had been the last-ditch holdouts in the format war, having committed themselves to Toshiba's HD DVD technology. 'The path for widespread adoption of the next-generation platform has finally become clear,' Universal said in a statement. 'While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray.'

"The decision apparently clears the way for both hold-out studios to begin releasing films by Steven Spielberg, who has insisted that they be released only in the Blu-ray format. Paramount has yet to issue a statement regarding Toshiba's decision."

But of course it's expected that Paramount will also cave soon.

This and Sweeney Todd were my favorite movies of last year, and they're only confirmed as coming out on HD DVD. If that's true, I'll pick them up, but with all the Blu news of late, I wish they were coming out in BD, too.

- We have received reports that several e-commerce websites have already put listings up for WrestleMania XXIV in Blu-ray.

That's a shame. I guess I'll be renting the DVD. Which studio is it from? Since MGM has theatrical distribution I'd guess Fox, who continue to upset me on the BD front.

Artman 02-22-08 12:08 AM

Yeah I was hoping for Lars but wasn't expecting it... I'll hold out.

Shannon Nutt 02-22-08 06:42 AM

Not sure if anyone's posted this yet, but Paramount has requested that all versions of THERE WILL BE BLOOD be taken down from sites as prebooks and to await further annoucement about this title...

I'm guessing they're going to wait so they can have a Blu-ray version ready for day and date with the other versions. We'll have to see if the release date changes when they re-announce it.

Bill Geiger 02-22-08 08:06 AM

Not that anyone cares but.....

From High Def Digest:

Only days before it was due in stores, Sony BMG has announced an indefinite delay for the planned late-February Blu-ray bow of 'The Beyonce Experience.'

As we first reported early last month, Sony BMG had planned to bring the "Irreplaceable" singer's first solo high-def release 'The Beyonce Experience - Live at Madison Square Garden' to Blu-ray on February 26 (the title had previously been released on standard DVD back in November).

The distributor now says that 'The Beyonce Experience' has been yanked from its schedule due to "last-minute production delays." Although they stopped short of issuing a new street date, a company spokesperson tells us that the release is now on track for a re-announce "sometime later this year."

At press time, there were no changes to the disc's previously announced specs, which were set to include 1080i video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround audio. We'll keep you posted of any future updates or additions.

I hadn't seen this announced anywhere but it is good news for Blu Ray owners!

This sounds promising. I must have this on BD!
