I'm getting this also, wonder what features will be on it.

PopcornTreeCt 01-15-08 06:26 PM

I'll probably pick it up. I guess this will be Warner's last new release.

candyrocket786 01-15-08 06:53 PM

Anyone know if Escaflowne on BD will have Eng Subs?

This has been posted on blu-ray.com by Bill Hunt. The sucky part is the delay of Master and Commander, but check out the titles he mentions for a June '08 release:

"Just a heads-up, we've confirmed that Master and Commander has been delayed from 2/5 until June as part of a marketing effort to create a large Blu-ray Father's Day promotion from Fox and MGM. The good news is that Patton, The Longest Day, The Sand Pebbles, A Bridge Too Far, Battle of Britain, Mrs. Doubtfire and other titles will also be released on Blu-ray as part of this promotion."

Any word on the extras for Master & Commander and Patton?

Master and Commander is supposed to have 5 featurettes, the trailer, and some HD historical/geographical pop-up map. No idea on Patton, although I hope Fox ports over all the features from the 2-disc dvd. They are very hit and miss when it comes to extras for catalog titles.

I may consider picking up M&C if the extra's youve said are encluded... I wasnt the biggest fan of this picture. But it was a huge scale Weir film.

Those extras came from HD Digest and this disc is ready to go, so I guess that's all we're getting, but it's better than nothing. I loved the movie. It was one of the best sounding dvds I've ever had. So the DTS HD Master Audio should be reference.

EDIT: HD Digest had featurettes listed, but it's actually 5 deleted scenes.

Atonement and American Gangster have a U.K. release date of March 10th.

I'd like to pick up Atonement hopefully it'll come out sooner here.

Let me get this straight. Over the past year or so and into the next few months, Fox has released or is releasing many great titles as special editions but without accompanying BD releases.

Out of all those, the one they decide to release on BD is...

Mrs. Doubtfire.

Wonderful choice, Fox. That's just a wonderful choice, and I'm sure most fathers love it. What could go better with those war films? ;)

Supermallet 01-16-08 06:57 AM

They should release Blu-ray editions of Arrested Development. Then we can see Tobias as Mrs. Featherbottom and we'll never even need a Blu-ray of Mrs. Doubtfire. :)

I've actually held off on buying season 3 of AD because I think it may get released on BD some day.

Why deprive yourself? AD is one show I'd double dip on in an instant.

bunkaroo 01-16-08 09:05 AM

They AD all the time on HDnet, but to me it wasn't a big improvement over the DVD. Maybe it would be better on BD.

Either way, these days it seems there's always a sale on Fox sets that would allow one to get the complete series for around $50. I spent $60 and I would have happily paid double. Yet another criminal cancellation by Fox a la Futurama.

Excellent! I'll also pass on Mrs Doubtfire & probably Bridge Too Far, but the others will be mine.

Hmmmm, what happened to "Across the Unvierse" BD? It WAS available for pre-order at Amazon but has now changed to "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available."

*edit* It's back up now.

Mr. Cinema 01-16-08 10:58 AM

Great news! The Assassination of Jesse James... BD has been pushed up from 2/26 to 2/5! HD DVD is still set for 3/18.

Just saw the back cover for the title and WB has given us Dolby Digital 5.1 audio only.

Dane Marvin 01-16-08 11:26 AM

Call me crazy (and maybe I am because I am already starting to upgrade to Blu-ray and sold off a bunch of my DVDs), but not many of these titles are making me go nuts. I don't exactly see the average Joe saying -- "Battle of Britain??? Mrs. Doubtfire? That's the straw that broke the camel's back. I'm upgrading to Blu-ray." Now if we're talking Lord of the Rings or The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind -- that would be some serious stuff.

Speak for yourself, I can't wait for Mrs. Doubtfire and Battle of Britain!

matome 01-16-08 01:53 PM

Yep, I was lucky enough to get in on that FYE Mrs. Doubtfire SE before they pulled it and was loving the ability to see it with an anamorphic transfer. Can't wait to get my hands on the Blu version of it.

Then they better push up the HD DVD release to 2-26 since they said 3 weeks behind the BD/DVD releases.

The linked article states the HD DVD is still scheduled for 3 weeks after 2/26.

Amazon still has it as 3/18, even though the BD has been updated to 2/5. So I guess it's a 6 week difference now.

Sorry, I guess I'm just waiting for more "awe-striking" titles to hit us. I realize Blu-ray is still in its infancy, but I would think you would eventually want to blow people's minds with the titles you are releasing in order to incite an upgrade. Not much that has been announced [thus far] for first half of 2008 is doing that for me. Can't wait for "No Country For Old Men", "Bonnie & Clyde" and "Narnia" though...
