This infatuation with specs above actual quality is ridiculous.

Thank you for pointing that out.

I wonder if those who live and die by lossless tracks could really tell the difference in a properly controlled double blind test? I'm sure I couldn't.

You obviously aren't using the right cables.

 You must be right!

Randi is an interesting fellow — I've seen him perform, albeit many years ago — and he does a lot to help skeptics combat superstitious nonsense. I hadn't realized he had that cable bet going.

I'd take that bet if only to guess. What'd I have to lose?

RocShemp 10-09-07 11:23 AM

I just saw that my Amazon shipping estimate is for the 24th. :(

Super saver shipping?

In my experience, Amazon's date shipping estimates are always well after the item actually ships. They like to give themselves some leeway for some reason.

No. Just regular shipping. I don't have the patience for super saver shipping or media mail.

I hope that's the case. I was afraid it was because a lot of people are ordering that particular item.

Giles 10-09-07 02:43 PM

any early reviews?

True_Story1011 10-09-07 07:56 PM

news is distributor's dont have this title in stock yet.

RocShemp 10-10-07 10:56 AM

Given that there are rips of the DVD everywhere, I guess Dreamworks/Paramount is trying to make sure the same doesn't happen with the HD version.

yeah, i heard about that... most people i know saw the movie (at home) while it's still in the theater... i was tempted to watch it for "free" but decided against it. I hate bootlegged movies... However, the guy told me the quality is superb, i'm tempted, but still, i want to watch it in HD...

KevD 10-10-07 07:13 PM

I should be recieving mine, all being well, by Tues (16th) from a UK importer, was hoping for it sooner but you cant really complain about recieving on the day of release.

PopcornTreeCt 10-10-07 08:39 PM

Waiting on my copy from DVD Planet. I really hope they ship it soon.

Seriously though, I can CONFIRM that DVD Empire's HD DVDs of Transformers are here and ready to ship this weekend to customers. We have more than enough to fill any last-minute orders we might get. So there was no delay in us getting the product from Paramount in time for release...can't speak for other e-tailers, of course.

If it's the copy I watched last night and today, it's a rip from the single disc DVD. I wouldn't call the quality superb since it's a single layer rip of a dual layer disc. It's not bad (well, for a bootleg) but it's not great or superb. In any case, I wouldn't pay for a rip. If I liked the movie enough to have it, I'm happy to pay for it.

 true... it's flawed but I dug the action scenes.

Supermallet 10-12-07 04:15 PM

I just got back from a Transformers HD DVD demo at Paramount and the web enabled features on this are stupendous. Paramount really took the baton and ran with it. Also, I confirmed that the audio is DD+ at 1.5 mbps. Also, they say they used AVC for the video encode, interestingly enough.

Where were you guys during the thread in Movie Talk? Everyone in there was circle jerking over this film while I was one of the few saying it wasn't great.

I liked it enough to buy it.

bunkaroo 10-12-07 05:45 PM

I am fighting myself daily on getting this/not getting this.

I really disliked a lot of it in the theater, but part of me feels like I should give it another chance, especially since it's likely to be the "biggest, baddest" HD DVD yet.

But then I think about some of the stupid stuff, especially anything with John Turturro's character, and I just want to clear my Amazon cart.

Here's hoping my incoming BD import of the 1986 Transformer movie will give me an adequate Transformers fix.

Quick dumb question since a lot of the review dealt with the web-based content. Are these items that you can only use with a computer that has an HD drive or can you plug in an ethernet cable in your A2 and get those extras like that?
