I loved this flick in the theater and I'll be picking it up on Blu-ray. I couldn't care less about hearing more F bombs. And CGI blood? Sounds riveting...

Weren't you complaining that the director's cut of Zodiac was the only one worth seeing?

By the way, while we're talking about Fox titles, we've got an update for you on the studio's forthcoming Live Free and Die Hard Blu-ray (due on 11/20). We've confirmed that the disc will include only the PG-13 theatrical cut of the film. This has upset some fans, who are aware that the studio is releasing an uncut version of the film on DVD the same day. The reason for the decision is that the uncut version was finished by the director only AFTER completing all the theatrical press junkets and promotional appearances for the film. Unfortunately, this was too late to complete compression and authoring for the Blu-ray version in time to meet street date. So the studio was basically faced with the choice of delaying the title or releasing the theatrical cut only day and date with the DVD. So that's the reason it's PG-13 only.

To be honest, I'm not all that concerned about it. I'm just completely psyched that Fox has jumped back into the Blu-Ray market in time for this movie to be released in high definition. After having seen the heights to which high-def has taken home theater in terms of image quality alone, I can't imagine having to watch my favorite movie so far of 2007 in nothing less than the best. I can't speak for anyone else, but me, I can't wait until November 20th!

I think it just seems worse because Fox is releasing an unrated version on DVD. If they hadn't done that, and it had been the theatrical cut on both formats, would everyone be so upset?

I have to agree with Josh here.

Die Hard 4.0

Yes, I was being sarcastic about Die Hard.

Supermallet 09-11-07 02:22 AM

Ah, gotcha.

Sounds silly but yes. As mentioned the dubs are quite annoying but the flick was still quite enjoyable. What's wrong with wanting a better version that corrects the obvious flaws?

Why would I waste $25-$30 on the theatrical cut when a double-dip is inevitable? No unrated = No sale.

Supermallet 09-11-07 07:02 AM

I think most people liked the new Die Hard despite its cuts, not because of them.

silentbob007 09-11-07 07:21 AM

I'm not sure that anyone call call a Fox BD release "inevitable" ...

Artman 09-11-07 09:06 AM

I wish we knew if it'll be six months or several yrs before we see the unrated cut.... sigh....

RockStrongo 09-11-07 09:10 AM

To me, this movie was average and the worst of the series. BUT, I like to have sets and would want to complete the set with it.

Since its not unrated (like it should be), ill wait. I do want to see the unrated version though, I suspect its basically the R rated version of this film, but not sure. Ill rent the dvd and see. If its not that different, ill get the BD.

mdc3000 09-11-07 10:03 AM

Even though I have stated again and again that I'll be skipping it out of spite, I already know that Fox's evil plan has worked and I'll be buying the BD anyhow on release day and at least renting the unrated on sd if not just buying it flat out. Damn you Fox! I've been jonesing to see this one again for a while.

tonymontana313 09-11-07 10:32 AM

I thought this was one of the summer blockbusters that had an old school feel to it. Unrated or not, it's still a day one pick up for me.

how so?

RockStrongo 09-11-07 10:55 AM

To me, it didnt have a "Die Hard" feel to it.

Agreed... Spidey was close though. I also enjoyed it much more than the 3rd Die Hard film.

I think it definitely had more of a "Die Hard" feel to it than 3. All the little touches were there, from Agent Johnson, the McClane/Gennero bit, John talking to himself, brutal fight sequences, to musical cues. I think it felt more like the first than any of the others, which is why I loved it.

I think it is the best sequel of the series, ranking them 1, 4, 3, 2.

In any event, I'll rent the Unrated DVD and wait for it on BD.

Artman 09-11-07 03:02 PM

I also think DH4 was a stronger piece of work compared to the other blockbusters. It's tone was consistent, it's pacing deliberate and execution about as good as it could've been. (considering an aging star and franchise, new director, not relying on anything from previous installments, etc)

Hammer99 09-20-07 09:49 AM

The box set is now up for pre-order at Amazon!

cartman 10-15-07 01:04 PM

Fox shats yet again on the heads of US BD owners. Die Hard 4.0 uncut in Australia on December 12:

What, they didn't want us sepo's to have nice things? Good thing BD has all that region coding or other hemisphere's might get to enjoy this, too.
