Live Free or Die Hard: R on DVD, PG-13 on BD

While DVD will get the unrated (read: R) version of this movie, the Blu-ray release looks to only be available in it's PG-13 suckdom (ok, so that particular adjective was my own opinion) for now.

Wow. Knocked Up and now Die Hard. These companies really want to push these formats don't they? Making the HD/BD versions hard to resist with all their features and uncut versions and all. All for a premium price.

This release has to be one of the most confusing ones out there. There are pictures showing one thing, while words saying other things.
Hope they get this resolved.

It shows here on Amazon that it's UNRATED on Blu.

Amazon gets stuff like that wrong on a pretty regular basis. I'd wait for an actual press release or some other official word from Fox.
If indeed the BD release turns out to be the theatrical cut only, you can always look forward to the inevitible double/triple dip release a year or two down the road!

Go check the whole thing out at that link above (it's on page two in the comments section), or if you just want the BD part, here is the direct quote:
"The Live Free or Die Hard BD release includes the PG-13 rated theatrical version of the film and all of the above standard definition special features plus D-Box motion sensor capabilities, several high-definition trailers and the exclusive high definition BD-Java multi-level strategy game “Black Hat Intercept!”. The disc will be authored in BD-J with AVC (MPEG 4) compression and presented on 50 GB dual-layer disc with English 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Master Audio plus English, French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound."
So either the box art graphic on their own site showing it as Unrated is incorrect, or this press release made a mistake (wouldn't be the first time this has happened).....we'll just have to wait and see....
Personally, I never saw it in the theater as I was just waiting for the disc...if the only changes are a few bad words and some CGI blood added then I'll probably still pick it up if it turns out to actually be the PG-13 cut....however, if the changes are more extensive, I might be skipping another high def release....don't the studios realize they need to make people WANT to buy the HD/BD versions?

No can do... PG-13 Blu-Ray:

Looks like I'm not getting this one, which is a shame since the film was better than I first thought it would be.

Total. Fucking. Bullshit. I've said it countless times before and now I'll say it again: Fuck Fox. I don't see a silver lining here, because I'd trade all the 'extras' they are including to get the Unrated cut. One of my favourite movies of the year, but now I'll probably take a pass, knowing the Unrated was available and they chose not to put it out...and I'll skip the dvd because I don't do SD anymore... damn you!

It makes sense if you consider Fox doesn't want to spend a dime to make the high-def transfer of the non-theaterical cut. It really seems studios are just releasing high-def material to satisfy their marketing pacts and little more. Sony probably pressured Fox into releasing Die Hard series on Blu-Ray so Fox spent as little money as possible.

Well I was just guessing on why Fox would do that....it makes little sense otherwise...perhaps the R rated version contained elements that were not cleaned up great and will look OK on DVD but not on high-def. Its a very weird choice, none the less

Considering how much contempt Fox seems to have for their high-def customers, this really shouldn't come as a surprise, but it's still disappointing to hear.

I've checked around their website but couldn't find an email address for Fox Home Entertainment - anybody here know it? I want to let them know that I'll be skipping this release, and other Fox BD's as a result of this (ok, maybe not - but that's what I'm telling them).
