Considering the original cut was meant to be an R, and everyone has been waiting for something closer to that original cut, yes.

My pre-order isn't going anywhere. After Bourne Ultimatum, this was my 2nd favorite movie I saw in the theater this year. I very much enjoyed it then, & I'll believe I'll very much enjoy it in HD... I will NOT be watching this in SD. If they double-dip later with the R-rated version, I'll just buy it again.

I only noticed two or three moments of obvious redubbing or cutting of language. And they were none of the examples people are using. So either I wasn't watching closely,or we have some excellent lip readers on this forum!

I never noticed anything 'odd' about the "I was crucified" line when I saw it twice in theaters. It didn't seem dubbed over,and I didn't notice anything with his lip movement. But maybe I was paying attention to the movie and not 'looking' for signs of ratings compromises? I don't know, but I will say the bad ADR/dialgue cut off after the electric plant scen with Justin Long was more obvious the second time around. But other than that,I hardly noticed a thing!

Sorry ... I'm not going to bitch until the unrated cut is out and appears to actually be better. I'd love to have both cuts on a BD, but besides small list of exceptions, unrated cuts are almost never better (and in that example, I like the word crucified over fucked anyway).

Yep. Where have all you people been all summer? Die Hard 4 was filmed as an R. It was LATER that it was cut down to a PG-13. So it's not like they are adding a few 'fucks' and a little violence for that 'Unrated' marketing gimmick. They would be restoring it to the way it was originally shot and intended.

Plus some of the edits/dubs were terrible. Easy to notice at least a half dozen bad dubs in the theatrical cut, and there were probably more.

Playing devil's advocate here (I haven't even seen the movie), many films require reworking to reach a studio-mandated MPAA rating. This is hardly a unique situation.

I think it just seems worse because Fox is releasing an unrated version on DVD. If they hadn't done that, and it had been the theatrical cut on both formats, would everyone be so upset?

Yes. I enjoyed the film, but it was clearly mangled in an attempt to get a PG-13. Some of it would be obvious to anyone, while other parts might be a little more subtle, but it was pretty clear that this wasn't the way the film was intended to be put together. If it is, then Len Wiseman is an even worse filmmaker than the Underworld movies would have you believe.

I wonder if Fox could even change it at this point anyways... I figure it'll be at least a yr before another version is released, I could get it for $23 during "the sale" and probably trade it in at dvdplanet for $13...so ten bucks for a couple of views this next yr... I'll probably do it.

True, but unlike many blockbuster movies released on the screen, DH4's audio syncs and dubs were in the category of porn movies. I still shake my head (no pun intended) and wonder how a movie like this could get released with so many flaws in the PG-13 cut.

Key part bolded. The dubs are criminal. First thing that came to my mind watching it was Rumble in the Bronx.

It was filmed as an R, and intended as an R. End of story. It wasn't until the looming release did they decide to hack it to bits to garner the PG-13 for that extra cash grab. Not quite the same as intending a PG-13 all along and having to edit out a couple of things to make the cut.

I just think it is asinine that they are trying to push this format to succeed yet still clinging to the double dip. These studios need to put out their best effort FIRST to get people to even consider the format. Especially considering the SRP they slap on these suckers. I'll just continue to give my money to Netflix instead until they release a proper version.

As mentioned before, its probably not about double dipping, but about cost of taking the R-rated cut and mastering it for HD. Although I'm sure double-dipping is a bonus.

I still think this was an error in the press release, until I am proven other wise and the Blue ray cover on the fox home page says unrated.

I doubt that is the case. It's all about the double dip! You know studios are going to want to double dip on the new format. Don'y deny it,it'll happen. They want to make as much money as they cane with rereleases.

So, I take it they don't want people to buy DH4 on Blu-ray. I think we all should email them and inform them of their wise decision, and how they can keep the Blu-ray version in their warehouse.

didn't this same thing happen with The Marine? talk of PG-13 on BD only but we ended up with the unrated cut.

But the Marine sucks therefore it didn't matter.

Actually it does.....if they will give us a crappy unrated version of the Marine and not Live Free or Die Hard, they dont have their heads on straight. And, they do not have our (the consumer) best interest in mind.

Well if the unrated cut is any good I will stick to the dvd, I was planning on the blueray since I will have a playstation 3 pretty soon, but I will be buying the first three on blueray once I have an HDTV. What a boneheaded move by Fox, they really don't give a shit about what the consumer thinks.

You thought the PG-13 cut was good enough to be one of your favorite films of hte summer and now you're not buying it because Fox is releasing the exact same version that you saw and loved?
