Studio Canal releases BLU

Following their UK offshoot Optimum who became neutral awhile ago the French distribs are now on board for BLU.

Via Blu-Ray.com:

Studio Canal has revealed an upcoming Blu-ray boxset for the three 'Les Bronzes' films, making it the first Blu-ray release to come from the formally HD DVD exclusive studio. The Studio Canal library is very extensive, as they distribute titles for many of the major studios. No release date specs have been released at this time.

Have they announced any more titles? They have so many foreign films in their catalog.

Beware of info from DVDrama.com, which is where this Blu-Ray.com info came from. Last time they announced this very same news back in May, Studio Canal shot it down.

All their HD DVD releases are region free already.

This is good news for both formats. They are essentialy doubling their installed base so we may see more releases from them.

Agreed, if selling more Blu-Rays means more HD-DVD releases. Then I'm down.

Both are probably too far off for reviews to be floating around right now. (Oldboy is still a month from release, and The Seventh Seal doesn't come out until late October.)

I thought that both these films came out on 8/27.

Do you have a confirmed date on these two titles?

Amazon.co.uk is still listing a September date for Oldboy, but their listing reflects the new date for The Seventh Seal. (I already ordered my copy of The Seventh Seal, so fingers crossed that it looks great.)

Actually, you are wrong on both counts!

The first news about Studio Canal going neutral was brought by the now revamped/defunct www.ecranlarge.com in February. There were a total of 4 BR that were announced and then pulled off after apparently Universal intervened not SC (actually in another thread I wrote about the close relationship between Studio Canal and Universal and how SC appear under the Universal distro umbrella). Here's more on the just renewed pact from Variety:
http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=13&cs=1

As far as the initial post is concerned this is a new development and DVDRama are a very credible source whose info is channeled through both Allocine.fr and Fnac.fr. If anything should change then it was clearly NOT DVDrama's fault.

This being said, any speculations about Universal going neutral at this point given the current developments are just that...speculations.

True_Story: I have no info yet!

Ciao,
Pro-B

Would have preferred reel to reel though.

Great looking set.
