This is out and has been confirmed region free(well really REGION ABC but that is every region). Has an English audio track(though only Dolby Digital) and subtitles can be turned off. I believe it is encoded with AVC.

Who owns the rights to Ghostbusters in the US?
I'm down for that and Fight Club, though I'm sure both will find there ways to American Blu anyway, even if Fight Club is owned by Fox here.

My copies of Seventh Seal have just shipped from Amazon.co.uk (at that nice preorder price they did a while ago) so should have them in a few days

Im soooooo happy Im going to cry. Finally, Bergman on Blu-ray, it came a lot quicker then anyone would have imagined.

Here's to Fanny and Alexander on Blu-ray by Criterion, hopefully it wont take too long.

Now I got to go check if Seventh Seal shipped for me as well!

Mine's listed as "dispatching soon", but it hasn't been sent my way yet. Maybe picking the cheapest possible shipping wasn't the greatest idea, but I guess I have enough on Blu-ray to keep me occupied while I wait anyway.

When someone gets Seventh Seal can they post their impressions. It will be interesting to see how this BD turns out.

I just read that the Blu-ray also includes the Tartan DVD version on a separate disc. Very cool.

Yeah, that's how Tartan UK has handled all of their Blu-ray releases to date.

Right, my copy came the other day and I've just had a chance to do a quick comparison with the remastered dvd that comes with it (concentrating on chapter 3). The Blu-Ray is really nicely mastered - while only on a single layered disc, this transfer is gorgeous as you might expect for a title that they exhibited theatrically in digital form (which is only 100 horizontal lines more than Blu-Ray anyway). Film grain is thankfully present, so no horrible digital whitewashing here. The Blu-Ray is so much sharper, with the DVD looking almost blurry by comparison - even close up shots benefit, with the curtains in the cabin/trailer looking authentic rather than the slightly odd look the have in SD. Great black levels too.

You'll also be surprised to hear that the extras are also in HD, not just sloppy ports in SD. I'm deliberately going to avoid posting bitrate levels here, as I think they confuse the issues somewhat - they are not by any means low though.

I thorough thumbs up from me!

I heard from another forum that SS is actually region-coded B. Is that a bogus report?

I have a region a PS3 and it plays fine. The box also says 'all regions', so yes it's bogus

Someone from avsforum.com just recieved his "La Science des Reves" on Blu-Ray from France. Unfortunately, in contrast to what has been posted on the website ("Sous-titrage : Français , Anglais). The disc does not have any english subtitles.

I already ordered this and i'll just have to deal with it I guess. ARGH!!!

I just finished watching The Seventh Seal blu-ray. What a powerful film. Regarding the transfer, this isn't exactly demo worthy, however, it looks very good. In most scenes you can easily tell it's High Definition. The only other version I had seen previously was the Criterion disc and this is light years beyond that disc.

The subtitles were acceptable. I didn't notice any spelling errors or anything but they were just kinda there.

All in all, if you love the movie it's a must own. I like to think my purchase may help get out other foreign classics released.

I wonder if it would be best to wait for another BOGO sale when these titles to hit the US?

I love to get Commando, Pred, Ice Age and Ronin.

Damn shame there is still no X-men 2

13 Roses

Set to be released in Spain on February 26 by SONY (with optional English and Portuguese subs). Nominated for 14 Goya Awards, pre-selected for an Oscar by the Spanish Film Academy.

Official site:
http://www.las13rosas.com/

Variety:

It would be hard to imagine a theme richer in drama than the real-life detention, trial and execution of 13 young women by Franco's nationalist forces, which makes it all the more disappointing that the ambitious "13 Roses" largely withers on the vine. Helmer Emilio Martinez-Lazaro has opted for an uncertain treatment which convinces neither historically nor dramatically. Decently budgeted item looks splendid and features a couple of sparky perfs, but is further let down by its psychological superficiality. Business beyond Spanish-speaking territories looks thin.

Set in Madrid in 1939, pic begins with the entry of Franco's victorious troops into the city. Streetcar attendant Julia (Veronica Sanchez) and Red Cross worker Virtudes (Marta Etura) are two idealistic Republican militants. They spend their evenings in a nightclub watching musicians Enrique (Asier Etxeandia), husband of Blanca (Pilar Lopez de Ayala), and communist Canepa (Enrico Lo Verso) perform as the bombs fall.

When Canepa decides to leave, Blanca gives him some money to help him on his way. Meanwhile, Julia strikes up a relationship with dapper young nationalist soldier Perico (Felix Gomez).

It is rumored that there was a plot to assassinate Franco on his victorious entry into the capital, and the nationalists are seeking revenge. (Pic makes it quite clear that none of the the girls had anything to do with this.) The first to be arrested is Julia, who, before too long, is being sadistically tortured by cop Fontenla (Adriano Giannini). Virtudes' co-worker, Adelina (Gabriella Pession), like most of the others a member of a socialist group, is turned in by her well-meaning father.

One by one, the girls are arrested, and by the 75-minute mark, they've all been jailed. Oddly, they continue to look attractive, radiant and neatly made-up under the watch of uptight prison director Carmen Castro (Goya Toledo, implausible). At one point, they even enjoy a bit of tap-dancing (historically true but here risible).

Script juggles its several storylines with skill but, apart from perfs by Etura and Lopez de Ayala, character work is substandard. Despite the wise decision to focus on fewer than half of the 13 women, pic mostly fails to inhabit the heads of its uniformly angelic protags.

Visuals are superb, with some stunning period detail in the art direction, and fine digital f/x and lensing by Jose Luis Alcaine. Dubbing of the three Italian thesps into Spanish is not always persuasive.

MK2 have announced Gus Van Sant's Cannes entry Paranoid Park for an April 24 release in France/Monaco. Will add tech specs as they become available.
