Hard to say if Fanny & Alexander will be region-locked or not. Here's a lo-quality scan of the back:
http://cdon.se/media-dynamic/images/...dd3a7f0c5b.jpg

doesn't seem to indicate region B as far as I can see, but I wouldn't trust it 100% even if it did. My advice would be to hold off on ordering it

That looks like a Region B icon in the lower left corner. But I agree that's hardly a guarantee.

Eureka's Mad Detective is region free, and released at the start of Nov.

Chocolate (the martial arts film, not the Juliette Binoche flick) is out start of Nov too - should have a copy soon to confirm region coding.

Both of these are UK releases.

still trying hard to figure out if 'chocolate' UK BR is free, so waiting to hear on that one as soon as you (or anyone else) knows about it...

I wish these great foreign films would get release in North America. I'm tired of seeing these hollywood crapfests being pushed on the format while these gems are ignored here.

So do these French Blu Rays have English subtitles? Mostly not. If not, then where did HDNet get the subtitles? I think I would convert to Blu Ray if these movies got released with English subs and DTS French.

because I'm sure MGM (who own the US rights) simply transferred the english subbed prints to high definition, for it's satellite hidef channel and HDNet.

I will definitely get these if there are English subs and region-free. What are the chances of that?

These are not announced as English-friendly. They also arrive through Pathe...

Pathe have the UK rights as well, so there would be nothing stopping them making a pan-European version of it. Whether they would region code is another matter - I think the only UK Blu Ray they have done is Eastern Promises.

Eastern Promises was under the Fox Pathe label, titles released from Pathe in the UK seem to be region locked.

Fox Pathe and Pathe are the same company in the UK, much as Fox and MGM are.

Yes, they both belong to Fox-Pathe-Europa, but some releases are handled by Fox under the Pathe label.

Thanks to JOSH Z for mentioning the LG B200 "Super-Blu" player! I purchased a brand new unit on eBay and upgraded the latest firmware and very happy. The region code fix is very easy and have already watched SALO and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD on Blu. I can't wait for RED DESERT! I am still playing around with the video settings but the upscaling at 1080i through my Lumagen Processor looks very very good...maybe even better than my Denon 2930 and Toshiba XA1. I still use my PS3 for all Region A releases but highly recommend this player as a way to see B & C titles! Thanks Josh!!

Does anyone know if the French BD release of MAN BITES DOG has english subs? It is listed on Amazon France but I can't tell if subs are mentioned. Also, will the French BD DOUBLE INDEMNITY have "burnt in" French subtitles?

Man Bites Dog is not announced as English-friendly. I don't have Double Indemnity yet but with Casanova you could watch the English-version without the French subs on.
